his technique wasnt perfect but who care?. He was still strong enough to get up! If he used perfect technique it probably would have been easier. Well done!
RKC get-up is strict and exact but Pavel says "get up any way you can." It's in the Enter the Kettlebell DVD. There wasn't always strict step by step form to the get-up and this video is an example of that. It's a fine getup and an awesome feat! Great get-up dude!
thats so hard to do, really really good form. not many people could max 80 lbs with that. my hat completely goes off to this man right here. your body is basically saying while doing that workout: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!?!
ummm..yeah, it's great to see people being interested in Turkish get-ups, but rarely do I see people using the proper form. And unlike "jordanvenina" says, a proper getup is performed using one hand(arm) only. If you're having to use 2 hands to press it off the floor to get started, you're doing way too much weight and are going to injure yourself.
Ide just like to add, that you have to go back to starting position before stoping (Lying flat on the floor). Otherwise, it is not a turkish get-up. Sorry dude, this was not a turkish get-up.
If that dumbbell really weighs 50kgs then good for you. VERY impressive. However, the demonstration of a Turkish Getup wasnt exactly spot on. Still though.. 50kgs is very impressive.
i always wanted to know what a turkish get up looked like and now i know thanks for showing this vid on proper technique now i can try this out at the gym and show other people how to do it based on this incredible 5 star vid right here thanks!!!

Impressive weight; however, as a personal trainer, I would consider my client cheating if he/she touched the ground with their hand at all throughout the entire movement- up or down. I make them keep the hand not holding the weight on their belly button at all times.
Your hand is supposed to touch the ground. You want to roll up onto your free elbow and then to the palm to "sand-and-base" meaning the weight is on your free hand and the opposite foot as your other leg comes through.
you think it wouldn't hit your core if you were to use your hand? do more weight? I also have my clients not use their hand on a "half turk" but when they move onto the full version, there is no reason to skip this step. Anyone who can do 100lbs is strong no matter how they do it.
I have to back up the other poster on that. You must use your free hand to perform this properly, and most importantly safely. I put up 100 lbs. in the TGU, and more importantly I bring it back down to the floor as well. :)
Trying to have someone do the TGU without using their free hand for support is unsafe. As a side note, I use a full barbell when I TGU heavy, and I actually find it easier than with a dumbbell. Just something to consider.
Interesting using a full bar. I would think it would be harder to balance.
And yeah... I also agree with everyone else that the poster missed WAY too many steps. Thank goodness for the poster's sake, he follows the most important rule of keeping his eye on the weight.
From the cameraman's breathing sounds like he's enjoying this A BIT TOO MUCH...
Hope you hugged him afterwards.

I want my clients to use their core when they do this exercise not their arm. The exact same form just take your hand off the floor. Try it.
CRISPIN4U 3 years ago
Yea, but you would be forced to use less weight...

you'll train your core more with hands as there's a much higher load placed on it
