My five-year-old daughter has just aquired a genet from her plastic bg of "Zoo Animals" for her 42 species zoo that is spread all over her room floor. We thought it a Margay, but then discovered otherwise. Thanks for posting this, she is thrilled to learn of your Loki. I think she is leaning on being a exotic animal vet :-P

Gennets belong in the wild! Sorry to say but i also raised them from babies (my husbands's a vet) and when you give them half a chance they integrate back into the wild regardless if they were "domesticated" We integrated a few all with fantastic results.

I rather keep cats.

Also, how well do you think a smaller genet would get along with a larger ferret? Rolo is prolly around the 3-4lb mark at 6 months and still growing. He gets along with our cats really well.

It's nice to see respinsible exotic pet owners such as yourself. I get tired of people saying that animals is cute and then gets just on that basis. You seem to have a good relationship with your Genet. I heard they require lots of love and care. I have seen one first hand and they bought her because she was cool. However they don't spend enough time with her and they complain of the miss the Genet makes. I would advise anyone to make sure they have plenty of time to socialize and bond with them

They are the closest living relitives of cats, and they are the link between the weasle family and the cat family. They have a big prey drive so keep away from smaller animals like small dogs and cats. They will bite you at some point and it will be a hard bite that draws blood! They are nocturnal (some species are active during the day) and will keep you awake at night and wil destroy a house if not supervised. Overall they make good pets if you have ALOT of time and patience!

You dont remove them, they're difficult to remove surgicly. Hand-raised pet genets very rarely spray, you just put up with it.

Each state in the US has its own laws regarding exotic animals. You would have to do research for your individual state. I have two greyhounds, a dachshund, and a cat. They all get along pretty well. I got him when he was just a baby, so he grew up knowing the cat and greyhounds. He and the cat play, he and the greyhounds ignore each other, and he doesn't care much for my doxie who likes to chase him. :)
