We can ill afford to squable between ourselves, especially over branches of Christendom. There are many Catholics that truly understand the struggle that the South is embarked upon for Catholics are involved in a similar struggle within their religion. Interlopers have created an alternative selection within Catholicism composed of Federalism, social justice and many aspects of communism, all evil. Many traditional Catholics also have a rich, long history in settling the South. Deo Vindice.
Great interview! Mark Thorney is such a well-spoken man, and this has really piqued my interest in the secessionist movement, despite my being a northerner.
No-one takes the rational decision of 'choosing' their religion. They are just born into it and for better or for worse they stick with it. Like handing down the x chromosome from father to son
@cosmictimes Actually many people convert from one faith tradition to another or begin practicing a faith wherein before they had been irreligious. A large percentage of Southrons in the Catholic Church converts.
I might remind everyone that some of the great heroes of the Confederacy were Roman Catholic... The very man that fired the barrage upon Ft. Sumter, Peirre Gustave Beauregard, was Catholic. The Pope, as far as I am aware, was the only western religious leader (Or political leader, for that matter) to address Davis as "President of the Confederate States of America". Would anyone reject the crown of thorns sent by the pope to Davis, for comfort, during his imprisonment, as "bad"?
I'm not Catholic, but I don't really care about Mr. Thomey' being a Catholic because we have the same view of government and though our theological beliefs may not align, I'm sure our moral values do for the most part.
These minor differences are nowhere near as important as coming together in order to free ourselves from this heinous US regime. As Southern nationalists I think it is foolish to quarrel over such things.
The Pope is not a foreign power. He is the Vicar of Christ, the supreme head of the Holy Catholic Church. I am a Catholic first and foremost, a Southron second. Do not protestants see them selves as subjects of Christ first and foremost? If so, then what's the difference? We both place our primary allegiance to a King and kingdom that is 'not of this world'. As already stated, your objection has no merit. It borders on anti-Catholic bigotry.
@mathomey If Christianity has been around for 2000 years and mankind between 100,000 - 250,000, what happened to all those people who came before? And if there is no difference between catholics and protestants 500 years of strife have been wasted, rituals are just what they are - rituals and everyone has just been wasting their time. And then there are the muslims on top of this and who even knew until a few years ago they were divided in two? Who is right and who is wrong there?
@1ivingHe11 As a Catholic Southron I find no contradiction between my Faith and patriotism for my country. Indeed if I fail in one I have failed in the other. As far as Southron nationalism you'll find that Catholics are over represented in the movement considering our minority status among Southrons at large. Catholics are less prone to infuse nationalism into Christianity than many other Christians. So your objection has little merit.
@1ivingHe11 In a way he could be like a foreign power in influence however he is not very strict seriously an abortion doctor not getting the Eucharist is not that bad.....honestly I believe that Europe was better off when the Catholic Church was in full swing...discovering new worlds and throwing the muslims out of Europe however with your name I highly doubt you grasp who is really running the show and who they worship they got you hook line and sinker
All too many Americans-all too many "Christians"-look to the government rather than God to meet their needs and solve their problems. Who do you worship. Who do you turn to. Choose this day whom you will serve.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen stated years ago: "95% of those people who hate the Catholic Church don't know what it is that they're hating.".

@SouthernGuardian At what point does a ritual become just a tradition, and a tradition just another ritual?

How can a Catholic be a true southerner if they owe allegiance to a foreign power, i.e. the Pope in Rome?
