I nabbed a 2002 TT last year for 20k AUD, bargain!
2002(8N) TT Quattro, 6 speed, originally the 225 hp model but custom ECU bumps it to 195kW (265hp) and anyone that's driven it as well as other TT's says it feels like a different car.
Plenty more to like about it, the body looks low but has a lot more clearance than people realize. I've even taken it out in the dirt and mud and slid around for a bit of fun, not many coupes you can do that with.
I have a 2002 TT FWD 5 speed manual. It's fun to drive and good on gas. It could use more power but then it would use more gas i guess. It would be great if it had a 6th gear,like the 225hp model. I noticed(in Canada)the new TT's with the 2.0T engine, are only offered in automatic, only the more expensive V6 engines, offers a manual tranny. I find this to be i big drawback if i were to buy a new TT.
@KaranChhajta Just get this one, the newer one will have its own set of flaws... Youll need to wait for the 2nd version of the newer car which means 2-3 years from now...

Seriously go out and drive a TT and the Alfa I guarantee you will see that the Alfa is simply in a lower league and if you bought one you would lose a fortune in depreciation and spend your life at the workshop. BMW make fine cars but the TT is almost half the price of an M3.

I wouldn't own up to having paid over the odds for a Fiat Punto either (by the way punto / mito = corsa due to the tie in. The TT has the best residuals in its class the alfa the worst - this is the free market telling you how crap alfas are.

Notice how they used a fisheye lens for the shots inside the plane and for taking shots of the inside and trunk? I think they kept it on for the main shots as well, look at the edges of the screen, all distorted. It's making the shape of the car itself look totally different than it is in real life. Other than that, it's a good review with lots of technical details.
Nice looking car. But a 3.6 convertible is over $46k. I'd rather pay a smidge more and get a Boxster/Cayman. Even a base one would clean the Audi's clock on the track. Besides, I've never liked AWD. It adds weight, complexity, and takes all the fun out of driving at the limit. I've always considered it being for people who dont know how to drive. Maybe I've just seen too many kids in EVO/STI's driving like idiots and getting away with it because the computer can mask their bad driving technique

Care to try again? My car will do 60 in under 7 seconds. The Camry V6 is even quicker than that because it's lighter than my ES. So yea my luxury sedan that seats 5 and weighs 1,000 lbs more will smoke the TT 2.0. O yea and the Camry V6 will keep up with any TT thats not the RS. Talk about REAL engineering Toyotas rule.

Not surprised about the v6 from the golf r32. You didn't mention the heavier engine blunting the effect of the extra 25bhp, and making the understeer even worse. VW modifiers (Audi) usually put more power in a car without preparing it, eg quattro, S3, S4, RS2, RS4, S6, all TT's etc. The AWD system is too basic. Unchanged since the quattro

Saying that the TT sucks is not exactly a fair statement. First its all a matter of taste and opinion. And to be sincere, the TT (owning one myself) is the perfect everyday sports car. AWD in the snow and around corners are both pluses. I mean i drive it to work everyday. Its good car to drive everyday while looking stylish.

I could say all of that for the various models in the Lexus line. Most Japanese cars are ugly. Just look at anything Toyota or Honda currently produces. As for impracticality, look at the Lexus SC. Furthermore, why is it still around? It's woefully out of date and is beaten by all of it's competition. All Lexus vehicles are overweight. In fact, you could say that about most all luxury car makes. Lexus is for the yuppies and nothing more.
That's the same as asking why does mercedes have the SLK or bmw has the z4? Lexus knows there are rich people who want a 4 seater, hard top convertible. It's not a pure performance car and they have said that. Lexus kicks Audi's ass in the US. Audi can only get 30 percent of the sales that Lexus achieves. That's ownage right there.
The SC isn't even in the same class as the SLK or Z4. Fail. The SC isn't a performance car period. You're contradicting yourself on so many levels. All German cars are expensive to maintain. Audi, BMW, VW, it doesn't matter. The new M3 weights 3700 pounds. I don't see you complaining. Most all modern cars are overweight in some way- It's called safety regulations. In the hands of a regular driver, the RS4 would beat the M3 on the track. You have to be skilled to achieve the M3's best times.
Also take into consideration that the M3 is a new generation, the RS4 old. Wait for the new RS4 until you do your biased comparisons. A4 does not lose to the C-Class or IS. The R8 does not compare with the Turbo or GTR. The V10 can/will. Your showing your ignorance about cars and engineering in general.

Much of the cars Audi make don't use Quattro, the TT 1.8 for example is front-wheeled drive, front-wheeled drive cars are inferior and cheaper to produce. BMW has never built a front-wheeled drive car using this ethos. Anyways, why is Tom Ford on a private jet? Wouldn't a Ryanair flight from East Midlands Airport have been sufficent?
Most cars Audi makes are available with Quattro. Yes, there are FWD versions of the TT, A3, and A4, but you can also get them in Quattro. Otherwise for the USA market, all other Audi cars have Quattro standard.
I use to be a fan of Audis, however their current model line-up (apart from the TT, R8 and possibly the new Q5) is disappointing, dated and seem inferior compared to the offerings from BMW.
You fail to recognize also that lexus owners have given those vehicles the highest marks which has been reported for 15 straight years trumping every german brand. Suck on that.

Notice how they used a fisheye lens for the shots inside the plane and for taking shots of the inside and trunk? I think they kept it on for the main shots as well, look at the edges of the screen, all distorted. It's making the shape of the car itself look totally different than it is in real life. Other than that, it's a good review with lots of technical details.

Nice looking car. But a 3.6 convertible is over $46k. I'd rather pay a smidge more and get a Boxster/Cayman. Even a base one would clean the Audi's clock on the track. Besides, I've never liked AWD. It adds weight, complexity, and takes all the fun out of driving at the limit. I've always considered it being for people who dont know how to drive. Maybe I've just seen too many kids in EVO/STI's driving like idiots and getting away with it because the computer can mask their bad driving technique

Care to try again? My car will do 60 in under 7 seconds. The Camry V6 is even quicker than that because it's lighter than my ES. So yea my luxury sedan that seats 5 and weighs 1,000 lbs more will smoke the TT 2.0. O yea and the Camry V6 will keep up with any TT thats not the RS. Talk about REAL engineering Toyotas rule.

i only got a diesel focus but the handling and feel of the car is nothing short of spectacular and that's with the heavy diesel engine in front. i can only imagine how the st is with its sportier set up and lighter engine.
the vw golf/audi tt in just too soft and unresponsive (and yes i have driven one) with its vague steering & its penchant for understeer. your "sports car" outclassed by a diesel powered 5 door hatchback. ouch!

Not surprised about the v6 from the golf r32. You didn't mention the heavier engine blunting the effect of the extra 25bhp, and making the understeer even worse. VW modifiers (Audi) usually put more power in a car without preparing it, eg quattro, S3, S4, RS2, RS4, S6, all TT's etc. The AWD system is too basic. Unchanged since the quattro
If Ford put extra power in a car, they will assure the car will take it, eg Sierra RS Cosworth, RS500, Escort Cosworth, Focus ST, both Focus RS' etc

Saying that the TT sucks is not exactly a fair statement. First its all a matter of taste and opinion. And to be sincere, the TT (owning one myself) is the perfect everyday sports car. AWD in the snow and around corners are both pluses. I mean i drive it to work everyday. Its good car to drive everyday while looking stylish.

I could say all of that for the various models in the Lexus line. Most Japanese cars are ugly. Just look at anything Toyota or Honda currently produces. As for impracticality, look at the Lexus SC. Furthermore, why is it still around? It's woefully out of date and is beaten by all of it's competition. All Lexus vehicles are overweight. In fact, you could say that about most all luxury car makes. Lexus is for the yuppies and nothing more.

The SC isn't even in the same class as the SLK or Z4. Fail. The SC isn't a performance car period. Lexus has better sales in the US because people are clueless and want a luxury car that can get them to point A and to point B. I know quite a few people who wouldn't have anything BUT an Audi because of Quattro, top notch interiors, and driving excitement. All three of those are things Lexus CANNOT match.

Yea BMW destroys Audi beside the fact that Lexus is superior to the other ones. Quattro hasn't shown it's ability to outperform it's counterparts on the track. Rs4 loses to M3/ISF. A4 loses to C class, IS, and 335. R8 loses to Porsche turbo and GTR. Please. Audi's are horribly engineered. Take for example the S5...two door coupe that weights 3800 pounds. That is one fat ass of a car!

You're contradicting yourself on so many levels. All German cars are expensive to maintain. Audi, BMW, VW, it doesn't matter. The new M3 weights 3700 pounds. I don't see you complaining. Most all modern cars are overweight in some way- It's called safety regulations. In the hands of a regular driver, the RS4 would beat the M3 on the track. You have to be skilled to achieve the M3's best times.

Also take into consideration that the M3 is a new generation, the RS4 old. Wait for the new RS4 until you do your biased comparisons. A4 does not lose to the C-Class or IS. The R8 does not compare with the Turbo or GTR. The V10 can/will. Your showing your ignorance about cars and engineering in general.

RS4 would beat an M3 on the track in the hands of a regular driver? Where are you pulling this shit out of what a sad excuse to favor Audi. Lexus beat the RS4 on its first attempt with the ISF, it's also 200 pounds less with 5 star safety rating. Congrats Audi on your 4000 pound RS4 which costs 10 grand more than the better competition

Much of the cars Audi make don't use Quattro, the TT 1.8 for example is front-wheeled drive, front-wheeled drive cars are inferior and cheaper to produce. BMW has never built a front-wheeled drive car using this ethos. Anyways, why is Tom Ford on a private jet? Wouldn't a Ryanair flight from East Midlands Airport have been sufficent?

Most cars Audi makes are available with Quattro. Yes, there are FWD versions of the TT, A3, and A4, but you can also get them in Quattro. Otherwise for the USA market, all other Audi cars have Quattro standard.

I use to be a fan of Audis, however their current model line-up (apart from the TT, R8 and possibly the new Q5) is disappointing, dated and seem inferior compared to the offerings from BMW.

You fail to recognize also that lexus owners have given those vehicles the highest marks which has been reported for 15 straight years trumping every german brand. Suck on that.
