  • aww.. beautiful dogs. my 'houla, Shiloh, is a rescue from animal control. She was siezed from a puppy mill. Due to irresponsible breeding, she has a lot of white on her and she is deaf, but she is allllllll catahoula! Makes me feel good that there are still responsible breeders out there breeding the dog to actually work and not look pretty and be a house pet. Shiloh is only 8 months old now but once she gets older and I have her hand signs down, I just may ler her try her paw at herding.

  • wish you could have contacted me sooner - I could have taken you to see the lake, which is beautiful.

  • Hello

You have BadAss catahoula’s I just drove through Jena Louisiana with my catahoula Sassy I wish she could have met your pack, the only hog she ever seen has two wheels, I got her from a breeder here in California she is 2 years now, had to take her back to see her roots, and I have a friend in Crosby Miss he has 2 catahoula’s

  • They are so adorable. I have a mix that looks eerily like a Catahoula, but she's Aussie and Choc Lab. Seems like a great breed, though.

  • I really do as well, but I use the reference in respect to the old breeders. Once known simply as the cur dog. They are still one in the same.

  • I prefer the term "Catahoula Leopard Dog" to "Catahoula Cur", only because of the negative implications of the word cur. They're awesome dogs, though.

  • Man, my catahoula would LOVE to heard something. Anything. He's small though. I rescued him and he was either the runt of his litter or is mixed with a blue heeler. He only weighs 30 - 35 pounds. He looks JUST like a catahoula, but I know they range from 50 to 90 lbs... He's like... A miniature catahoula. :3

  • He probably would, they love to work! Even the 1/2 breeds. ha! And remember - Dynamite comes if small packages.

    Good Luck with your dog.

  • Ha! You're telling me. That boy can run.

It's so hot in Texas right now though it's hard to take him out.

We both get so hot that we have to leave before we're ready.

He goes crazy if he doesn't get enough exercise. O.O

  • Tuska means pain and homma means work. With no disrespect!

    Fine breed, great work.

  • No disrespect taken, but fo our tribe, it does mean red fighter or warrior. My husband is a proud member of the Jena Band of Choctaws, unlike many of today, he did not have to learn to speak his native language, but had to learn to speak english. Although many of their words have the same meaning as other Choctaw tribes, their version is different, therefore the different meaning for us.

But you know they are very tough and are able to work with pain, so that would apply too!

  • Bought a dog from this Kennel at uncle earls. Great pup! great people! thanks for my puppy. loved watching your dogs work. they were awesome! love Cadillac, Poker, and Pepper!

  • You should have stuck with the great ELO songs to finish the video.

  • Tuska homma :D:D haha.. you know what that means in finnish?

  • I don't know what it means in finnish. And I don't know if you are trying to be cute or funny. But in the instance that you are acting like the south side of a north bound mule. Let me iinform you that it is Choctaw, our Native American Tribe, of whicht I am very proud. And it means "red warrior or fighter". And if you mean no disrespect, none will be taken, but if you do, well, just pay attention to the name.

  • it means the pain thing.

  • My houla would love to learn to work cows. shes small (about 45 lbs) shes herds our 90lb GSD and the dogs at the dog park. Her parents were working dogs.... But she is deaf (mearle to mearle). She is VERY bold and smart.

  • I wish I could find a place that I could bring my guy and see how he reacts to Hogs/cattle... ha ha he would probably freak and find the nearest hole.

  • folandequine,

He probably wouldn't freak and hide in a hole. Although Catahoula's are cautious by nature, usually of strange people. Everything our dogs do is instinct. What they were bred to do. We just enhance their natural abilities, by doing is on command. We have pups at 8 weeks wanting to work.

They are also very protective of their people and if raised with children, you can't ask for anything better.

  • I love my catahoula, but I don't think he is working bred, he is 10 mo right now and has hit that stubborn age in his (obedience) training. He likes to bark at cows, but is scared of my thoroughbred. Gabrielle, Jackson, la

  • Gabrielle,

Most Catahoula's have a working heart. I have seen some that wouldn't touch a hog or cow, but was one of the best horse/stock dog. If your dog is barking at cows, he is showing signs wanting to work. Catahoulas are an all purpose dog, and some are harder to obidence training, dont force, be patient and consistant. They do not understand maybe or sometimes, it has to be always or never.

    Good luck with your pup.

  • My catahoulas are great with the kids, but when it is time to work get out of the way.

  • i LOVE my Catahoula..(Patch). he's beautiful, and just a wonderful dog w/my 4 children..even the littlest one (4 wks old).

Patch has saved my life before, attacking an intruder who later turned out to be a paroled convicted rapist!

i LOVE this breed. *but Patch isn't extremely hyper as someone said they are...he's a protective boy, and is full of energy to be sure...but i wouldn't call it hyper*

  • All I hunt is 2-3 times a month. Ive heard Catahoulas need lots of work. I have catchdogs but I want a finder that will bay. I live in the city do you think a cat would be right for me?

  • He might be. Contact the lady. But beware, they are EXTREMELY HYPER!

  • had one in NYC for 14 years, 2 hours of running a day and he was fine. If your gonna leave him home and just walk him around the block he will chew your house.

  • awesome video of the greatest breed on this planet!
