Those are some really nice left hooks at full speed, but I think you're oversimplifying the description of left arm that you merely lift the elbow and then pivot. When you do it full speed, you let hand fly outward & trail shoulders before impact which is how it should be done. You relax bicep for split second & then catch and pull the hand forward for kill. Coach Russ Anber said that the hand trails side of the shoulder and then catches up on impact. Arm falls behind to build tension.
Damn, I've boxed for years and I've never thought of describing the motion of the feet like windshield wipers on the left hook, that is an awesome tip! respect.
what about the fist? Palm parallel to the ground or facing me (like in the video) I noticed that the shoulder "locks" better if your palm is facing down but the risk of injury is greater.
@boxingadolfo love your video tutorials.Great work explaining the technique.Your hook looks super powerful.I watched all your videos but could not find videos explaining the right hook and the overhand right punches can you do a video about them too?Class dismissed rofl
I used 2 fight as a heavyweight. I'm retired now Since i was considered a small heavyweight i had 2 put a lot of xtra effort on maximizing the power behind my punches
Yea Brah I been trying to look you up because as soon as I heard the bang off the bag I KNEW you were pro brah. But being a small Heavyweight shouldn't be to big of a problem. I'm young with an old school taste so I'm going back to guys like Jack Dempsey, pure puncher who ruined his opponents be never letting up. With the power you have behind you man. You look like you would crush light heavyweights like a feather and be a great heavyweight contender.
When u throw a left hook with your palm facing you, you'll have a wider range for your left hook without hurting your wrist. I felt also that by throwing a left hook with my palm facing me I hit much harder. An example would be, try to pull something with your palm facing down & with palm facing you & see which way you feel you have a stronger pull, plus some of the biggest left hook punchers did it this way from Mike Tyson to Joe Frasier just to name a couple. God video man. I also do my hooks with my palm facing me. I hurt my hand a lot doing hooks with the palm down and my wrist. The hook with the palm facing towards you seems to have more power and a better structure.
@aschindler22 when you hook with your palms up, it's typically used for boxers who hold their hands high (peak a boo defense) to go around the gloves between the ears.
@aschindler22 One explanation I heard was that the palm down method lets you clip the chin cleanly without hitting both the chin and cheek. Personally, I much prefer palm facing myself because it uses my pectoral muscle instead of front Deltoid. I can still hit as long range a hook as I want but a really extended hook is dangerous against the body. You can easily hyper extend the elbow. With a head target, you can get away with more elbow extension.
Thanks for the lessons and tips, I'm currently working on my lead hook and you have helped me correct a finer point of my technique. Now I will go and put in the sweat (perfect combination - good technique & sweat).
damn man, getting hit by one of those hooks will put u to sleep right away!!!
