  • We call it soft drink over here :P

  • It's a fizzy drink in the UK... is this not logical?

I've always thought this about 'soft' drinks though haha.

  • in Indonesia we call it "coca cola gitu2" atau "minuman soda"

  • soft drinks are not soft if you drink it too quickly it bites

  • Canadians say pop, if a Canadian says soda chances are he/she is from Toronto aka the Canadian New York City wanna-be. Suburbs or Toronto count as Toronto

  • As a kid in Las Vegas, I called it pop. as an adult, I called it soda.

  • also, buffy FTW

  • in australia we call it soft drink because its nonalcoholic, anything with alcohol in it is a 'hard' drink

  • am i the only one who thought something dirty when i saw the title...

  • Man that's a lot of product promotion in this video...

  • It's "soda" in California. :)

  • lol i drank pepsi while watching this,

  • In Ohio, we say pop :) if anyone says soda it confuses everyone haha

  • It's pop in Ohio!

  • Comment removed

  • Im hard :)

  • hahah i say coke for evarythang my friends are like "sweetheart that ginger ale." i am so so so screwed up! :P

  • In Michigan we say pop

  • can we be friends? cause I'm pretty sure we would make great friends.

  • just ask hotforwords

  • i live in michigan and we say pop lmao, p.s. i would love to hug u tightly :P

  • The density of pop is softer than alcohol?

  • Actually I've never really met anyone who calls it pop, or soft drinks, I know a lot who do say soda though

  • Yes in the south we call it coke, but only Pepsi and Coca cola

  • Wait, Americans call soda? Us Canadians call it pop or coke... :s

  • 1. I call it pop, because a) I'm Canadian and I was brought up that way, and b) it makes a subtle popping sound. :D

    2. IMO, there is no reason to call it "soft drink." It just SOUNDS like it makes sense, when it doesn't. Soft drinks aren't soft, neither does it go down easily. All the name does is contrast with "hard drink (liquor)" and liquor goes down hard.... That's what she does.... :D

  • You would be amazing as a teacher. :D

  • In Canada we say pop <3

  • @BreezyFlies

Well then, I Might be the worst Canadian ever for Not saying it.

  • @BreezyFlies

    .. No we don't

  • @djbi0tch I do and so does everyone i know but sorry if i offended u...

  • @BreezyFlies

I'm not offended, I just don't know anyone who says pop

    Like not a single person

So it's an extremely big generalisation to say that everyone in Canada says "Pop" because it's not the case.

    Just sayin. No hate. Lol

  • If I had to take a guess on the etymology of the terms hard drinks and soft drinks would be the following: Hard drinks, which are known as alcoholic drinks, have serious effects on your body noticeable effects-- more than simply being ill. Whereas soft drinks, in contrast to hard drinks, the only major effects you'll get is a sugar high and a stomach ache. Hard/strong effects vs. softer/ weaker effects

  • I live in Canada, and everyone here calls it pop, including myself.

  • Look, I live in the south and everyone I know calls it soda...

  • and since when was food fast?

  • OMG I love Buffy too.. More respect... I can see it in the background...

  • Some people say Soft Drink .. because its not a Hard Liquor. But yes.. i hate it when people say Pop.. that is retarded.

  • @Mokeyfrog I made this post befor you said anything about hard liquor. But its hard because if it hits you .. It can knock you out.. Soda cant F you up.. but it can keep you up and awake...

  • Im glad your hair dousent look like this any more .. not that this looks bad ... but how you have it now is better.

  • I am so sad that that alcohol is not available in Canada :( I want a cool bottle, lol.

  • first the stiffy video now this, why do you keep having me think you are referring to your penis

  • Who thought he was gunna talk about penis lol

  • i call it soft drink :) its weird any other way

  • I would think that "pop" would be a nickname for bubble gum or something...

  • i have not met one australian who has called it "soda". i suppose it's just the rest of the world.....

  • Hay! I say pop. But that's ND talk :P but I literally lmao'd at 3:05! "Soft drinks are called soft drinks in comparison to hard drinks!" Lol

  • i googled it for ya :D apparently "soft drinks" refer to any drink that has either no alcohol or very little of it. hard drinks just refer to drinks that have a lot of alcohol.

  • @fantasyangel99 But that doesn't explain HOW they came to be called "soft" or "hard" drinks

  • Also, why do we go to a "wet bar" to order a "hard" or "soft" drink?

  • I.K.R?! I always wonder why call a soda a soft drink when clearly, if you taste it, it's actually the opposite of soft with it's carbonation. I don't see why they didn't decide to call "slushies" soft drinks...Those are soft drinks.

  • If you say "soda" when you refer to a sweet, carbonized beverage in Canada, you'll get a "wtf?!" look. Canadians like to be specific when we drink so we'll actually call it by its brand name. But in the off chance we don't give fuck we'll say pop.

  • i say pop u weirdo

  • soft means it desnt contain alcohol. Hard means that theres alcohol in it cuz when you drink it ya falll hard ya know?

  • But champagne is called bubbly and technically it's hard... or maybe its soft. But it's definantly not soda or pop... OK I agree it's all just fricking wet!! @_@

  • people in where i live say soda pop

  • you know, this is a lot of words and I don't feel like reading them... hahaha :P

  • i just had a wet drink... yeah thats gunna lead to some miscommunications...

  • fuck me

  • Soda is so mainstream

  • We just say pop in Canada, soda is just weird.

  • Marry me!

  • I'm from Canada. I say POP :)

  • Yup guilty I call every kind of "soda" coke! Gotta love the south!!

  • God your sexy

  • You say what i think :)

  • Its a colloquialism from 1800's; it was to explain the point of use as a soft drink was to be relaxing and since most medicines and snake oils were meant to be medicinal a 'soft' drink was named to help relax you but only the ones that contained opium and codeine and often sold to women. Then there were 'hard' drinks which were meant for the butch drinks of the day, only really planned to be consumed by men. The soft / hard is about female / male identifiers.

  • While i was watching this i was drinking bubble.

  • again i was mislead by the title

  • omg, you look like my roommate from college in this clip! Weird!

  • Their soft as in the foam when you pour it :3 yummy

  • so because i call it pop...does that make me a loser?

  • Comment removed

  • It's COKE in my part of Texas

  • soft drinks= more like less bitter tasting, harsh taste

hard drinks= more like alcoholic beverages harsh and bitter taste

    ...all about taste

  • It's probably called soft because americans started producing soda in soft plastic bottles, soft when compared to hard glass bottles used to contain alcohol. Smaller bottles are still made of glass and so the statement is redundant, there are lots of saying that no longer work in our present day, not much we can do about it except maybe start a new revolution where we change those sayings for something else.

  • @AutumnMaidens No, it doesn't refer to the bottle. Soft means no alcohol. Hard means it's fermented to alcohol. My guess it's similar in meaning to hard and soft water. Hard water has harsh metals in it, and soft water doesn't.

  • from Louisiana and I do call it Coke lol.

  • Ok, soft and hard just refer to alcohol content. Lemonade and tea are both soft drinks in addition to soda. Hard refers to alcoholic drinks e.g. I need a hard drink. Hard liquor (slightly redundant) refers to the fact that it contains more alcohol by volume than what were the usual hard drinks, beer and wine.

  • i call it pop =p

  • Kiss*

  • I know my family that lives in Boston says "soda pop" (well, it sounds more like "sooda pap")... Whereas, in Colorado, we tend to say soda.

  • i'm in Britain..... the hell is soda

  • i'm from wisconsin, it's pop :)

  • @TheBrandiBauer I'm also from Wisconsin. I say "soda"... :|

  • @Silenzerocks what part of wisconsin? cause in the southern part, it seems like there are more "soda" people

  • You should ask Siri lol

  • I'm from tennessee, it's coke. (:

  • Ok, so, to what I can find (I know it's been a while, but I'd rather research than dig through comments, lol) "hard" was originally used as a distinction between distilled liquor and undistilled. Soft was introduced literally as being the opposite, and not containing alcohol...still can't find why the term hard was used for liquor though, lol

  • lets just call them fizzy drinks.

  • im from indiana and we call it pop. it doesnt seem weird to me lol

  • haha ahh don't ya love being from new england? I ask the same questions but I think with the hard liquor like vodka or tequila its called hard liquor because its more intense then "soft liquor" like beer or wine u know?

  • Yes....I call POP or SODA. but it's called POP here in Upstate NY :)

  • On the assumption that alcoholic drinks are 'hard' drinks.

So non-alcoholic drinks are soft drinks.

  • we call it pop because it's short for soda pop.

  • Hes going bedy by at 4:12

  • that bottle is awesome!!

  • Sprite has the same after taste as coke. Sprite..... Coke..... After taste

  • i call it pop. maybe its soft and hard because like soft a kid could drink it but once there's booze in it its "hard" like hard as fuuck, badass. soft = "virgin" drinks, for pansies.

  • a long time ago, some people said soda and other part of the country said pop, so companies wanted a way to say soda in a way that everyone would understand in advertisements. Soft drinks used to mean any drink that wasnt hard, aka alcoholic. because soda manufacturers used it to refer to soda so much, now people usually use it exclusively to refer to soda.

  • Softdrinks are NOT good for your fucking body. THE`RE BAD- sugar etc...!!!
