Abraham was not the first Hebrew. He was descended from Heber, from which the word "Hebrew" comes. What caused the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was probably one of many fragments that resulted when a comet broke up while entering the earth's atmosphere. The destruction was probably on a global scale. Abraham and his people were lucky they didn't happen to get hit. Some call events like this, God's Will. I call it good or bad luck. We'll see who gets it when the next one hits.

Where in the Bible does it state explicitly that the abominations which Sodom and Gomorrah performed were homosexuality? Is homosexuality the only abomination?

Why is so much emphasis placed upon this sin, when the previous verse explicitly states that they "did not aid the poor and needy"?

Well, u can't only focus on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, but the Bible as a whole. Romans 1: 26-27<--the rhetoric could be taken as denunciation of homosexuality.

But then again (lyk u said), there is the inhospitable factor. In other context (Ezekiel 16:48-50) Sodom's sin is actually identified but doesn't mention homosexuality?

I guess what it really boils down to is interpretation but idk that I interpret it that way either (that being gay is against the Bible?)

@4trahasis Yeah thats all the old testament stuff. Now its just a sin just like every sin in the bible. But many christians do like to take it over the top and fight to get rid of homosexuals!
