In a way, this song reminds me of Number One Blind: it ambles along well, an above average pop song, then in the last third, Gordon makes some small, perfectly judged decision which doesn't sound abrupt but still explodes the song. In Number One Blind, it's the downbeat, snarly chorus kneecapped by how 'morning' is held; here it's the 'I won't feel bad at all'. She just has the uncanniest knack for giving her songs a charge you don't see coming.
What is with all the criticism for this song and video? I've seen worse song and videos, with much less criticism, on YouTube. This is a pretty solid song. I haven't heard it, in probably 7 years.
"I'm not trying to say I don't want to live , 'cause I do...."
I like the song melodically, but that's really is lazy lyrical writing, a far cry from "you can't fight the seether" or asking Levolor to be your blind.
Well, the thing with Nina's songwriting, especially in songs like this, Number One Camera etc, I think the lyrics are almost meant to be sloppy, casual and lighthearted - it fits the mood of the song IMO.
whoa im not one of those fans who hates comercial videos and i still really enjoy nina gordon but this must be the most artificial video ive ever seen, tonight and the rest of my life comes in second =/
Sorry guys this wouldent make 92 college radio get over it, i am no music snob but com on she is soooo sooooo musically inclined and she gives THE PUBLIC MAINSTREAM what they THINK we wanna hea, what happend too mucisal evolution? at least louise istrying too sound old school. fuck it, its just not yin with out its yang. veruca without its salt!
yeah, i totally thought of volcanogirls in the beginning of this. She's great, but im not liking this video at all, its to humerous.I like the song, but not the video.
I've never heard Veruca Salt, but it doesn't sound like the kind of group that would put out bland, lovey soft rock like this. This sounds ready for the middle-aged mom crowd, no offense to them.
Say whatever you want, but Nina Gordon is beautiful and talented. And to Todd... VS sucks balls now. Sorry, it's a fact. Without Gordon, that band is nothing. Louise Post has a terrible voice and their new stuff just plain blows. Nina, you are the best!
I hope you're not serious about VS sucking. I agree Nina's stuff is pretty rad, but in no way is VS bad now. With Nina gone, Louise did the best she could. They don't have the dual harmonies anymore, but the fun 'rock the fuck out' quality is still there. I thought IV was their best album.
..Although Louise no longer looks youthful and Nina still looks wonderful. :D
This is definetely NOT a negative comment, just an observation. Go watch the Seether video, then watch this....what a change! I know they were done like a decade apart, but WOW!, she looks so different. Anyways, besides that Nina is awesome, was awesome and will ALWAYS be awesome. ;)
When I saw this video in the wee hours of VH1's Insomniac Theater"~Fall 2000, I became infatuated-not with Nina-but more so with a girl I was seeing my senior year of college. Thing was, this Nina Gordon vid reminds me so much of our "sweetheart" relationship, yet I could never find it again to show her. I married her 3 years later, and seeing this on YouTube for the 2nd time in 6 years has made my day since (now I can die) finally show my wife.
I dunno about anyone else.I liked Veruca Salt but I always wanted to hear Nina doing more mellow stuff. I LOVE this song and I also love the album. It doesn't suit the hardcore Veruca Salt crowd but who cares
"And now I can die"? Yeah. Well, artistically at least.
Rarely have I been as disappointed in a musical act. And this is coming from a hardcore gay male fan who loved Veruca Salt on Minty Fresh, pre-DGC.
The heterosexist arrogance of a line like, "I'm a girl and he is the guy" makes my stomach (and eyes!) roll. Single Nina? I'm not particularly suprised.
And people complain about Liz Phair. Pfft. She's not half the sell-out.
hey, you're the one being arrogant. nina gordon is straight. she loves guys. that's why this song is about her being in love with a guy. get over it. if you want to write a song about being in love with a guy, go right ahead and i won't accuse you of being arrogant for not using neutral words.
In a way, this song reminds me of Number One Blind: it ambles along well, an above average pop song, then in the last third, Gordon makes some small, perfectly judged decision which doesn't sound abrupt but still explodes the song. this album was great, her newest one kinda was lame! she went to political and preachy with her weird ass views

lol, what? on which songs does she preach her weird ass political views? i think you have nina confused with someone else.

I really miss Veruca Salt, but I am glad she is still making music because her voice is too good to fade into obscurity.

Not to offend anyone or this song -- I don't like it.
Veruca Salt was a MUCH BETTER option for this girl. This....it just-I have no words for it. And Louise's voice does NOT suck.
And she TOTALLY stole the beginning of the music video to "Volcano Girls" with the sheets and stuff.

Of COURSE the song is ironic. Hilariously so. It's practically a parody of all the stupid boy-crazy songs most female pop artists put out.

Well that makes sense in a way. Especially since all the clips feature men pretty much show her about to perform fellatio on them.
