@mistereggsalad It's a metaphor. Kid = Locke. Flying = Walking. The people laughing/ chastising/ wondering if he's crazy = pretty much everyone Locke ever knew.

Imagine you're watching Lost, and you notice the name of the episode is "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues". You also notice a lack of any actual cowboys in the episode... but there are plenty of emotionally strained tough guys (cowboys) who's upbringings were less than ideal because their fathers were douchebags (daddy issues).
