this song is on the soundtrack of the movie "young adult" starring charlize theron. there's a scene showing her driving a car and listening to the song again and again - on a tape! awesome.
In respect to Nirvana they may have been melancholly but they were still a great band in my opinion. I do agree that TFC had that great power/dream pop element that was more upbeat and positive, TFC had 4 classic albums in the 90s in my opinion..
At a time when such miserable, pitiful acts as Nirvana and the like were the biggest bands in the world, Teenage Fanclub rose up against the phony, overrated self-loathing Cobain and wrote some of the greatest pop songs of all time.
@natedawg947 i take it you're the type of person who reads into nirvana as a depressing band. what you said is equivalent to a single mother finding My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" depressing cause their love life didn't work out, but that album isnt depressing to me, well why not if it should be because someone perceived it that way. Nirvana were top of their game all the way through a quarter of 94, watch the majority of videos taken at Reading 92' and youd know.
I watched this very show late at night at a Brazilian TV station back in 93 or 94,it was the first time I heard Teenage Fanclub.... it changed my live!! Thanks for posting, brings back very good memories!!
@manhuntruler2 - well they are from Scotland not the Pacific Northwest (although very similiar weather patterns)..so technically no. they are simply just a heavy pop/rocknroll band with dissonant tendencies.
No doubt they admired what was happening in american alternative rock though.
Their songs always bring back to me the memories of good times and is still around in present days or the good times to yet come - awesome stuff. Thanks Chris for introducing me to them (don't know if he'll actually read that but I'll tell him some day :)
Just listen to cool this music is, incredible bass grooves, dreamy vocal harmonies and melody, some of the best improvised guitar soloing you'll hear, great drumming, this is the sort of music i love and there isn't alot of it around. its just raw and cuts me to the core.
@t88sTaNg who gives a shit this isnt a fucking nirvana video. get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. this is coming from a huge nirvana fan. ihate idiotic fanboys like you shut the fuck up about nirvana on a teenage fanclub video. btw Mudhoney rocked harder then nirvana all the time.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Take it as a complement to TFC. I don't think that the Nirvana fanboys mean any harm! they have just learnt that they(nirvana or KC) loved TFC so are here to check it out....peace..love empathy...i'll get me coat
He/she had already seen this show of Teenage FanClub in the Tv adored and relenbro the good time that passed great band now in MTV doesn't have but band with Teenage, Pavement, Laugh, Lush and as other tamtas
i was there for this. I can remember fighting in the mud.fun at the time but with only a cold tap to wash yourself with afterwards not so good..................
Love the sound of this band, at first i thought the lead singer was Evan Dando from Lemonheads .... cool beat up and stickered jazzmaster guitars, sounding neonoxtric
the drummer is my uncl :3
