Russell was indeed the founder of the WT Society. He was long dead when it morphed into the JWs. The JWs have been morphing since! He was, therefore, the founder of the Society. He did not control its affairs after his death, quite obviously!
I agree. There is a lot I disagree with in Russell's teachings, and a lot I don't like about his rather self-confident approach to presenting his interpretation of Scripture, shall we say. As a student of CTR's teachings for over 30 years, I respectfully disagree. The current JW organization bears no resmemblance to Russell's perspective. He would be disfellowshipped in a minute by the JWs if he were alive today.
That one is easy. If someone believed exactly as Russell did, they would immediately be disfellowshipped from the Society. The Bible Students group of today are a great example - they believe as Russell taught, but are not welcomed by JWs.
Note that the JWs use church history to try and disprove the Trinity (pg 7 Should You Believe in the Trinity), so the record needs to be set straight. For instance, Tertullian really taught: " in whom is the Trinity of the one Divinity: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit." In the end, it really doesn't matter what the early church believed; only what the Bible teaches. But it does matter that the Watchtower lies about church history.

The JWs protect child abusers and do not report anything to the authorities. They are WORSE than the Vatican because the JWs claim to be "holier than thou".
What I would have to say MrKatt is, I think most jw's find the thought of going back to the teachings of the trinity, hell-fire, etc. to be too unpalitable to even consider. For me, I think, if I were to try to understand the Bible completely on my own, how would I be any better off? When you look at the world of Christianity you see many different beliefs and view points... How is that such a great thing?

This example could apply to many areas. The Wt will often say that the Bible calls for unity in the faith. But what kind of unity? And at what price? Should it be a forced unity like the one imposed by the Wt? Or a unity in the Spirit, by true believers in Christ? Note that there are many people who are considered ...
Right now you're alowed to have doubts + ask questions evaluating the Wt's position and authority, but when you will get baptised, you will be severely reprimanded if you continue in ANY disagreement. Say goodbye to honest hearted doubts and questioning.
As for people informing me about the Trinity, the soul, hell, etc. It is true, but I have freedom to believe in it or by examination, reject it. Mekelsior rejects hell and believes in soul sleep.
Thanks MrKattt, it's always a pleasure to talk to someone with your knowledge and obvious sincerity. I wonder though, in the first century people accepting Christianity were gathered into the various churches, there was a body of older men in Jerusalem who gave clarification on doctrinal issues like circumcision. Also Paul gave instructions, and he encouraged the church members to be obedient to their elders. Also, how about the Ethiopian Eunich, who asked for help to understand the Bible?
Ther thing that really puzzels me is, many, many people seek, knock and pray for the "truth", yet they come up with vastly different answers. I've spoken to several JW's who have done so, and feel that God led them to the JW's. So, what's going on? Why do so many wonderful, sincere people come up with such different answers? (By the way, I include in that group, those who have chosen the Muslim path as their way to find/search for God.)

I must admit that some questions are difficult to answer. I believe that many people don't check out religions and cults before joining (or don't check well enough). Some don't pray and seek God. Some don't check out critics of those faiths. Some don't have Bible knowledge and become convinced by cult and religion leaders. Some just choose a religion according to their likings and desires. Some choose according to what seems to make sense.

In the begining, the Church was more united. It was small. The ap Paul spoke of a day that would come when wolves would not spare the flock. There r many pass speaking of this. The Church was never totaly destroyed. Jesus said He would be with believers always & that the Holy S. would guide them in all truth. This truth is Jesus even if there is some difference. Cults later on, took advantage of distress in the Church to invent false gospels.

Ok School time.
One Generation consist of the oldest member of a family line to the youngest, this is one Generation.
For example if your grandad was born in 1894 and you was born in 1980 when he was 86, this is a Generation.
The JW only say what the bible says, and that is "by no means will the Generation of 1914 die out before the end comes".
So if you was born in 1980 you are the Generation of 1914,meaning you are only 28 yrs old, what this means is the Generation today are the last one.

So Sad, you gone out of your way to try and discredit the best and most loving organisation in the world today, you never mentioned all the good they do, help they give out, and not just to their own but all people, they build homes, halls etc... in the poorest places on earth, on 9/11 they opened there headquarter door's and saved hundreds of people, from the dust and rubble.
Just because you can't work out What a Generation means, you put them down, the 1914 Generation is still alive today.

Any religion that covers up child abuse allegations and later settles in court for millions of dollars is NOT inspired by God. It's that simple. The JWs protect child abusers and do not report anything to the authorities. They are WORSE than the Vatican because the JWs claim to be "holier than thou".

What I would have to say MrKatt is, I think most jw's find the thought of going back to the teachings of the trinity, hell-fire, etc. to be too unpalitable to even consider. For me, I think, if I were to try to understand the Bible completely on my own, how would I be any better off? When you look at the world of Christianity you see many different beliefs and view points... How is that such a great thing?

First, I appreciate your comments and invite you to always comment your views and disagreements.
Second, I view it as much better if an honest hearted person that loves God, thoroughly seeks Him without any authoritarian organization. God said seek and you WILL find, knock and it WILL be opened. It is fat better to be a Christian with some differences with others, as long as you follow Jesus alone (become born again)

Paul gives an example of differences in the faith in Romans Chapter 14. Paul said to not judge each other if one is weaker and observes days, or eats certain foods. This example could apply to many areas. The Wt will often say that the Bible calls for unity in the faith. But what kind of unity? And at what price? Should it be a forced unity like the one imposed by the Wt? Or a unity in the Spirit, by true believers in Christ? Note that there are many people who are considered ...

Christian but r only NOMINAL Christians.
Right now you're alowed to have doubts + ask questions evaluating the Wt's position and authority, but when you will get baptised, you will be severely reprimanded if you continue in ANY disagreement. Say goodbye to honest hearted doubts and questioning.
As for people informing me about the Trinity, the soul, hell, etc. It is true, but I have freedom to believe in it or by examination, reject it. Mekelsior rejects hell and believes in soul sleep.

Thanks MrKattt, it's always a pleasure to talk to someone with your knowledge and obvious sincerity. I wonder though, in the first century people accepting Christianity were gathered into the various churches, there was a body of older men in Jerusalem who gave clarification on doctrinal issues like circumcision. Also Paul gave instructions, and he encouraged the church members to be obedient to their elders. Also, how about the Ethiopian Eunich, who asked for help to understand the Bible?

Ther thing that really puzzels me is, many, many people seek, knock and pray for the "truth", yet they come up with vastly different answers. I've spoken to several JW's who have done so, and feel that God led them to the JW's. So, what's going on? Why do so many wonderful, sincere people come up with such different answers? (By the way, I include in that group, those who have chosen the Muslim path as their way to find/search for God.)

Sorry for the delay, I just came back from vacation.
I must admit that some questions are difficult to answer. I believe that many people don't check out religions and cults before joining (or don't check well enough). Some don't pray and seek God. Some don't check out critics of those faiths. Some don't have Bible knowledge and become convinced by cult and religion leaders. Some just choose a religion according to their likings and desires. Some choose according to what seems to make sense.

In the begining, the Church was more united. It was small. The ap Paul spoke of a day that would come when wolves would not spare the flock. There r many pass speaking of this. The Church was never totaly destroyed. Jesus said He would be with believers always & that the Holy S. would guide them in all truth. This truth is Jesus even if there is some difference. Cults later on, took advantage of distress in the Church to invent false gospels.
