no teeth but its still shocking when they bite lol! Dylan is cool, I bought his DVD last year. Great to find ya Annya! He's gorgeous. And, wow my toad Honker would slurp up the biggest worms WOW. lol. I'll send yo the link to my toad vids. *hugs* :D Jess
Wow! One thing about all of the toads that I have had is that they absolutely will not bite. It's interesting that the salamanders will bite even when kept and tamed for a long time. I am wanting to try a Gecko. I'm not sure if I should get one at the pet store or not, or just catch one out here, I tend not to catch unless I come across something in distress that needs rescued, but I might keep one of the local geckos for a few weeks to gather some behavior info on them. TY :D Jess
Well actually I didnt mean to imply I caught him. I more or less rescued him. A roomate of mine was leaving and I volunteered to just keep the tank and salamanders.
You dont see them ordinarily thier underneath leaves and in damp well hid places.
I live in Michigan and I've NEVER seen a "tiger-salmananderer". At least not in my basement or surrounding areas anyway. Good thing, because it looks mighty fierce. He looks HUGE, and I can't have something like that trying to bite me while I'm sleeping. Bravo for taming that monster. Nice video. Later.
Okay this is a stupid question...but are they slimy? I would be scared of it LOL I just have never really been around them that much. He has beautiful skin though.
lol I understand. Actually no, thier not slimey. Feels kinda like a persons skin only very thin. Like the skin around sushi rolls, if you ever felt that.
WOW Hes very cool!!! and I looked up tiger salamander on google just to compare... and thats what I would think he is. There were alot of diffrent colored tiger salamanders!! ... I loved the vid 5*'s ~HiGH HeaD JeSTeR~
Looks like some type of Tiger Salamander to me. They come in such a huge variety of colors. But I would have to say size more than anything makes me think it is a Tiger. Most other types salamanders don't get nearly that big.
Thankyou Dylan. Yes hes a huge one isnt he?! =) He did change color over time, he had a more yellow underbelly when he was younger. I got him as a young adult, so not sure what he looked like as a baby.
Unique creature..very beautiful. Nature is so wonderful. Have you seen the series Planet Earth..just got the DVD series...amazing footage and cinematography! Reason I mention that is because in one segment they were showing these giant salamanders...7 feet long! Amazing. If anyone hasnt watched that series..check it out..even if you have the DVD is awesome!
Hi Hugh, Ill have to check that out. Did they just enlarge the salamander in the series Planet Earth or use an actual one that is 7 foot long? Because thier are ones in asia somewhere that do grow that big. It was very shocking to me when I seen one!!
Thankyou, I think he is quite a prize specimin myself!
I feel funny worrying about him biting me and you have a 4 ft croc with teeth! lol I just didnt want an incedent because while hes not vicious by anymeans they mistake fingers for worms and when they latch on they dont like to let go.
Ok so you also say he is a Tiger Salamander. I appreciate the responce gothictier! I was hoping youd see my "lizard" that I told you about when I was checking out your croc vids.
It looks like maybe a Blue-spotted Salamander, most Tiger salamenders have yellow markings, not real sure though. Is he going to be your pet? What are you feeding it?...
Ive had this salamander for about 4 years. (They live a long time and are very hearty.) He has a mate also that looks like him. They eats crickets and earthworms. They have eaten tiny feeder goldfish from thier little pond in ther aquarium too.
Yes tigers can have yellow then they can turn darker green with age. Kinda varys.
I also have a smaller species called blue spotted. That one has turqouise blue spots on his underbelly
Aww, he's cute. I had a bearded dragon once, that's as brave as I could get! A worm killer, seriously. He can't help it that he's higher up on the food chain! People, people, people.
Yes they really shouldnt be handled dry, it doesnt feel good to them. Salamanders live in marshes and have to keep thier skin from drying out. On a dry tray he wouldnt have been able to scoot around so fluidly, he would stick. :) Thanks for watching.
