Dick Wagner played a brown Gibson SG with a wall of Marshalls at the Charleston WV concert. The drummer was also loud. Each time he hit the snare it was like a 30-30 rifle going off. I remember the crowd on it's feet, from first to last song, as the volume shocked everyone. Main act bands rarely ever let warm up bands play that loud. Alice Cooper guitarists used single stack 50-Watt Marshalls with fab tone. School's Out was the closing song with a huge balloon drop. Great memory.
I had the fortune to see Ursa Major, Aug. 1972 in Charleston WV. I gained a great deal of respect for A. Cooper, because he let Ursa Major come out on blasting through 3 - 100Watt Marshall stacks at full volume. The sheer volume immediately caused the entire civic center crowd to rise to it's feet. Dick Wagner, guitarist, played a Gibson SG and the band's first song was Sinner. The entire 3 piece band was very talented. They played Silver Spoon, Stage Door Queen, ..the crowd was in complete awe.
That's awesome dude. I was there, too! I grew up in Barboursville and drove up 64, met my cousin from St. Albans and we had the best time ever. Those were the days when it was festival seating and we were real close to the stage. I'm pretty sure that this was the "Killer" tour. My sister had this album by Ursa and we used to play it non-stop. I saw many a great concert at the "old Civic Center", and some great basketball games (we won thestate basketball championship in '75)
@kenleycloud Very sorry you missed this concert. It's been almost 40 years ago. I was 16 at the time and this was quite a show. I had actually seen Alice once before at the old Keith-Albee Theatre in Huntington, WV around '71-ish? I think that Wagner from Ursa Major eventually became Alice's lead guitarist after the original Cooper band broke up! I feel very fortunate to have grown up during all the arena rock days. I saw almost every big 70's band at the old Charleston Civic Center!
Stumbled across this band in a cut out bin, for a few bucks. Loved their music. tried to get friends to listen to them, but none cared. Indeed they were indeed ahead of their time in the early 70's, they still sound good.
Ursa Major was a world class power trio. The songs were written & arranged by lead guitarist & singer Dick Wagner, a true Guitar Hero. Born in 1942, Wagner recorded Ursa Major in 1972 - when Axl was only 10 yrs old. Ursa Major broke up much too soon & Wagner went on to play with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Kiss & many greats. As they grew up and formed Guns N Roses, Axl Rose & Slash have been among many who have recorded and emulated Dick Wagner tunes and his striking guitar leads.
@angrysamoan666, you don't know shit about Rock N' Roll. Dick Wagner and Ursa Major were out 20 years before Axl Rose was even fucking born, he was was wearing a diaper when this was created! Get the facts right you douche.
I remember this band I had to listen to them on AM radio... fantastic album Dick Wagner played lead guitar on Rock and roll Animal with Lou Reed.Very underated band
I followed Dick Wagner when he was with the band Frost. This guy can really play the guitar. What a walk down memory lane this one is, wow. Could someone please post the rest of this great album?

Axl rose was shitting in his diaper when these guys were writing music. Your're an idiot. G & R is an overvalued show off band.

Saw Ursa Major sometime in the early to mid 70's. They backed up Alice Cooper. Dick Wagner went on play with Alice Cooper.

My brother's band did a song that I can't remember the name of. I can play the melody in my head, but can't quite recall.
Anyone remember? It was their most recognized tune.
