I love the live videos of this. It's really quiet and nobody's moving or anything and then at the "LIKE A BAT I FLUSHED THE GIRL" bit the entire audience freaks out and screams along. 'tis badass.
Just in case anyone's interested, 'nosferatu' is an old Romanian word for 'vampire'. The lyrics fit the theme, with mentions of castles and teeth etc.
@TheEnchantingWizard1 I think S+E beats Nevermind and Loveless hands down, but I don't think it's even in the same league as Spiderland. Crooked Rain, I may have to give to you.
@iceravenVI yeah dave was in it since the start. I had the honour of meeting and staying with some of these guys for a couple months back in 96. Slint were broken up for some 5 years by that point but Brian and Britt still worked together in The For Carnation. All really awesome, friendly, generous people. Not to mention fucking talented.
one of the most overlooked drummers in rock history as far as im concerned. brilliant restraint and subtlety, but explosive when he needs to be. absolutely fantastic
when rock used to rock....nowadays there's a lot of crap even underground, to much pose and all that crap i just don't get....bravo, slint and all your legacy.
There is a really fucking great underground hip-hop song called "No Image" by Holocaust (prod. by Blue Sky Black Death) which uses Nosferatu as the video...
I get this song stuck in my head all the time. I was travelling across town and had it playing over and over on my iPod. Wish I could have heard this live.
Really like this song. At 1st i was like WTF is this? but sometimes you've just gotta give it a few plays and it really does stand out from some repetitive crap i've heard.
I got into Slint around the same time I first saw George Romero's "Martin" for me this song and the film are forever entwined! Especially with such lyrics as
Yes, it must be art if there are tempo variations, for you see this basic musical artifice -albeit ignored by many- indicates craftsmanship beyond basic pop music sensibility.
@RazvanGrozny there are plenty of great songs which are plain 4/4. there are many great songs with weird tempo signatures. both can be enjoyed and I don't see how one should be superior to the other. complexity can be about the texture of the melody or the layers of sound instead of the tempo variations. or there can be no obvious complexity, but yet very simple songs can be masterpieces too. there can also be very complex music which is crap. enjoy diversity!
I love all of Tool's stuff, and have for years, but now I'm trying to find more progressive bands that use irregular time signatures. Preferably progressive metal like Tool, but I have hope in Slint. I only now just found them, but I'm liking the sound of it.
Shadwickman, check out Primus (Eleven, Year of the Parrot, Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread) or Mr. Bungle (My Ass is on Fire, Egg, Platypus). And the first part of Providence from Godspeed You Black Emperor's F#A# is in 7/8.
I've listened to quite a few songs from Primus and I love 'em, and I have heard of (but never listened to) Godspeed You Black Emperor, and I have neither heard, nor heard of Mr Bungle.
Thank you for the suggestions! I'll make sure to give those a listen.

5/4
rhymeswithgabriel 2 years ago 4
From 0:05 it's in 5/4.
This goes on until 1:05 when it switches to 6/4.
At 1:30 it goes back into 5/4, going back into the 6/4 chorus at 2:17.
At 2:49 it goes into standard 4/4.
At 3:13 it hits 5/4 again and stays so until 3:45 and it returns to 4/4.
At 4:36 the song hits 6/4 again and remains so until the end of the song.
Sorry if you didn't want the WHOLE song transcribed for you, but in case you did and for everyone else to look at it, here it is.
