I have worked for WellPoint, Blue Cross of California, Kaiser and other insurance companies; after working for them and seeing how they operate, I am totally for a public option. They deny wherever they can, delay when they cannot deny, until the patient dies, drop expensive customers from coverage, refuse to pay for what they claim as "pre-existing conditions, and much, much more.

If you don't have a public option, you really only have an option of which crook is going to rip you off...

i had blue cross in the late 90s and last year, 90s where good,last year sucked ass! its a discount service not insurance, they make deals with hospitals to reduce their share and hang you with the remainder CASH ballance for instance a bill for $450 ins=$120 reduced 120 to 80 my share was still $330 and ins is supposed to pay 80% how the hell does that work? ive got the bill and ins paper work to prove it same way with dental-you are better off paying in cash! without ins

I worked for WellPoint. I listened to screaming matches between sales reps and account managers about who did not maximze profits enough. I filed letters of denial and letters of appeal for denial. Their term for having to pay a claim is a "loss". They were constantly being sued by paying customers they denied for no other reason than they got sick.

WellPoint owns Blue Cross and many other insurance companies. As a former employee, I can tell you, trust them at the risk of your life.

Without a public option, insurance companies can set their own rates, set their own level of benefits, and force the uninsured to pay them under penalty of law people will be fined for not giving money to private health insurance companies. Obama hasn't stood behind a strong public option. He comes out says he is for it and then goes on to something else. He has shrugged off his political base in favor of corporate money. In the end there will be a "public option" but it will be so watered down and full of loopholes that the only thing it will accomplish is getting more profit into the hands of private insurers. Obama will claim victory and that will be it on health care for another 30 years. We have to fight for single payer now.
