  • they should have a class to educate future engineers about this system. BUT they would be given a choice: Would you rather hear and see it in action and THEN learn the physics behind it OR would you rather learn first and then let the real thing blow you away?

    tough choice for sure.

  • the mach 6 anti-ship missiles are going to be tough to hit, even with this, unless they have a SUPER long range system using something the size of a 105MM round!

  • i was in the first all navy unit to go over there and operate these weapon systems. we installed them as well

  • CIWS/CRAM is awesome. Back in my Navy days on a carrier you cold be on the other end of the ship and hear and even feel that thing firing.

  • sounds like a fart

  • when the bullets come down they could srsly hurn someone :P

  • The rounds self-destruct at a range of 2.5Km I believe.

  • @staplerjm No - thats what the flashes are, they self-destruct after a certain distance if they don't hit something first

  • Just throw a shit storm of projectiles into the air and you are bound to hit SOMETHING.

  • About OPSEC, while you might be concern, the cat is already out of the bag. In Iraq, I seen countless TCNs working around this stuff and no doubt, they were telling people that didn't have a NEED TO KNOW.

  • Military Guys (and gals),

Come on people, think about operational security! Do you really want the insurgents and terrorists know the details of a deployed system that's designed to protect our people???

Yes, the video is cool. However, neither the video nor text descriptions should be going up in a publically accessible forum.

    Regards,

    Concerned Soldier

  • LOL WUT

  • Haha, nice. I agree.

  • Dude, you know the info on this system is on wikipedia? THere is nothing in the description that isn't classified

  • You don't think the locals working on the FOBs see this stuff or have taken pictures of it? I remember escorting some terps to the dfac and one of these went off and they didn't even jump. Everybody knows we have this stuff.

  • Well obviously they are monitored at all times, when I said they are 'unmanned' I was referring to the fact that all targeting and firing are handled by a computer. A human couldn't detect an incoming round, much less measure its trajectory, aim, and fire all before impact.

  • Yes all the guns are monitored at all times. The C-RAM is actually a group of systems to include the LPWS, AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel Radar(montiors fixed and rotary wing aircraft to create no fire zones around friendly aircraft, AN/TPQ-36 and 37 firefinder radars, LCMR's and a giraffe(all for detecting incoming rounds)and a C2I node all connected to the BDOC through fiber and redline shots with monitors in the EOC to include the battle captain who allows guns to release hold fire and engage target.

  • I think they are manned at all times

  • They are manned at all times and my hubby is heading over there to do maintaince on them for the Army!! That is what he works with in the Navy!!!

  • They are manned at all times and my hubby is heading over there to do maintaince on them for the Army!! That is what he works with in the Navy!!!

  • They are manned so that we arent shooting down Blackhawks and F-16's and the like!

  • They are not shooting at planes, they are designed to destroy mortar, artillery rounds, missiles, and rockets before they hit the ground. And they are unmanned.

  • Actually they are manned,24/7.

  • You're right, they are per Army request, but can run completely autonomous like on the Navy ships if it was desired

  • did he actually hit a plane in the night?pretty awesome
