  • It is so astounding how pretty she was even when bald. I don't understand how it is okay for conventionally accepted artists to do drugs and go stir crazy (and even be admired for it), but it is not okay for Britney Spears to shave her head. This world does not make a lick of sense.

  • but my hair, it contains all my powers

  • A) Those sentences aren't complete and don't make sense.

    B) Mekas has been a pioneer in experimental film making since the mid 1960s.

    xx

  • @TheWilliamDouglas

    A) words really mean shit they just help us guide others to intention. one does not need to be accurate to convey their intention. I understand his what he is trying to say (intention) quite easily and it makes perfect sense.

    B) that's correct.

  • I wouldn't call Jonas Mekas an artist. He is just a old guy who has some ideas he puts from certain perspective. Art isn't just eveyone and everything you can prove is art. Modern artists for artistical reason think they are exempted from being judged .iTS BECAUSE THEY SAY ART IS NOT assessable (as there are no criteria for modern art) its like i can put whatever i want , say somethink , and thats art , becouse it is. They forget that feelings art is supposed to deliver comes from understanding

  • maybe it wasn't courage that let britney shave her head... maybe it was despair that drove her

but, jonas mekas just has my respect. when he was talking about artists who don't have nervous breakdowns are terrible... that reminded me of my art teacher... she hates the color black -___- i was very unamused. But you don't really need a nervous breakdown to be an artist. All artists are searching for themselves in a way... a true artist, i think, will accept "nervous breakdowns" and such though.

  • who is the guy across from Jonas? i've seen him in other videos..

  • priceless.

  • What I love about this is that Jonas Mekas takes Britney Spears seriously as an artist. A lot of people talk about the collapse between the high and low in art - but few people actually live it. And Jonas lives it. He takes ART seriously and doesn't dismiss things just because they are popular or perceived as uncool. GO JONAS.

  • more words to live by from jonas mekas

  • new spin on pop stars...thanks mekas

  • He is lithuanian.that's why

  • Who's that w/him and why can't he pronounce Jonas correctly?

  • omg this stuff is really insightful i only just heard about hime i thought it was gunna be summat about the jonas bros...he is extremely smart gooo jonas wooohhhh.YOU ARE AWESOME DUDE

  • Exactely!.. Yes... Excactely!.. shut up 12yo white boy in the background and let the master TALK.

  • o.k. I'am going to do it ! ( let's shave!) ;))

  • clap clap clap clap clap

  • Thanks so much for this. Mr Mekas continues to be a brilliant and insightful artist and an inspiration. Thank you.

I shaved my head this morning.

  • amazing

  • Great :) You're right Jonas! Btw I like her more without hair (not joking).

You're a great man. I only wish I could find that TV special where you and John Lennon caused total havoc in the audience..

  • funny

  • meraviglioso, grandissimo, immenso.ed io non l'avrei mai conosciuto se non fosse stato per un compare.

  • this guy is amazing and a forefather of underground cinema

  • he is a poet. and he is an artist. and its a big disaster to be normal for an artist.

  • Hahahaha... the great Jonas Mekas talking about Britney Spears. It's so true Jonas, a real artist is naturally tormented in some way. Britney Spears is not a great artist, but she's definitely going through a transformation right now.
