If the Bible states that a marriage is suppose to be one man and one woman, doesn't that mean that those two are devoted to each other til death to them part. Where in the Bible dose it state that if you get divorced, you can marry another woman if your ex spouse is still alive? How many times has the Bible been translated throughout the years? I mean "homosexuality" wasn't coined as a word til the 1800's and wasn't added to the Bible until the 1940's. Think about it.

Im still shocked that this is even debated. We live in american, everyone should be able to have the right to marry whom they choose. Isn't marriage suppose to be about love? These same-sex couples just want to have equal rights. That includes being able to marry their love. Did we forget the Constitution? How can they call themselves Americans if they can't even go by the Constitution?

And while Maine will eventually expand civil marriage rights to include its gay and lesbian citizens, the people who blocked those rights back in 2009 will be remembered and their descendants will know of their shameful part in the dishonorable role they played in vilifying and bearing false witness against their neighbors, coworkers, family and fellow Mainers.

@TheAnticommy obviously you believe homosexuality is "gross".. i myself am strictly heterosexual and though i am not aroused at the thought of another man does not mean someone else wont. you cannot say homosexuality is not natural.. because obviously it happened naturally across many species thousands of years ago. biologically it does not allow one to procreate which is a species means of survival. but this is the 21st century and procreation is no longer necessary for every human.

I have to admit that i never was aware of this proposition to repeal same sex marriage in Maine... i was never even aware that Maine had legalized it only to have it repealed by voters. This recieved so little national coverage compared to California. Shame on all the Maine voters who voted "yes on 1"

What does the word of God say about collecting a dead spouse's social security? What does the word of God say about spousal privilege in legal cases? What does the word of God say about the tax code for married couples? CIVIL marriage has nothing to do with some people's particular interpretation of what they think is the word of God.
