I think thats exactly the mistake that the US is making, not putting enough pressure on the Iraqui Government to build their Government. They keep fucking lagging it. Did you ever ask yourself or maybe consider that MAYBE just MAYBE the Iraquis dont want a democracy? Why must the US always assume that every country in peril needs to turn into a democracy? They should instead focus most of their attention on countries that really need help like Sudan or Zimbabwe.

Another point to consider -- maybe the reason the US is dragging its feet on forcing Iraqi gov't self-sufficiency, is that "we" (in the US gov't sense -- not the "me personally" sense) don't want an Iraqi gov't. As long as the occupation continues, the military-industrial complex makes money. When it ends, a new source of income must be found. Perhaps there is no push because peace would lower profits.

of course not. But looking at some of her ideas makes it obvious. For example, if we pull all our troops from the middle east, sure she'll be really popular here, but Al Qaeda is going to rebuild themselves. In case it's not already blatantly obvious, Al Qaeda hates us. An early withdrawal could potentially lead to another terrorist attack.

Plus, withdrawing from Iraq too soon would force the nation to totally rebuild their government. The democracy they are seeking has never been reached in the middle east. They have no precedent to follow, and therefore need a strong guiding hand. The most able hand would be the US. Our approach should be a slow and steady withdrawal, rather than take everyone out at once.
