Car journalists working for evening newspapers also praised Toyota's hybrids and urged other manafacturers to follow suit.

@FCScorpio79 Honda came up with hybrid before Toyota. And both those hybrids are highly carbon intensive to produce and the batteries are heavy, toxic and unreliable. This uses a flywheel NOT a battery, its a different technology and it IS very interesting. Flywheels are much more efficient at taking high volumes of energy quickly and then releasing, which batteries are notoriously bad for. Your point is a bit out of touch.

@FCScorpio79 Because the Toyota Prius at that time are very slow and sluggish despite the very expensive cost at the time. Porsche did the hybrid system on their high performance sedan, SUV and this GT3 R race car. The hybrid system doesn't really decrease the overall performance but reducing the fuel consumption instead.

By the way, latest model of Toyota Prius did well in its class though.

@HackTheTouch Little known fact. This technology was developed by Williams F1 team for Porsche and has much more in common with KERS than Prius. It recycles the energy created in breaking (like F1 cars) but instead of putting it in an un-reliable and heavy battery, it stores it physically in a fly-wheel, then releases it as extra power on the exit of corners. Very clever.

911 was the project-number (development etc.) of the car that became the original 911 back in the 1960s. I guess they couldn't think of a "proper" name, and sticked with the project number as name for this model-series 'cause it was quite snappy.

Internally new/current 911 has the project-id 998.

Actually it was originally called project 901, and they originally wanted to present it as Porsche 901. But you see there was this minor detail that Peugeot already named their cars with 3 numbers in which zero was always used in the middle. Porsche didn't want to engage in court battles with Peugeot or to call their cars sold in France a different name, so it was simply renamed 911.

Also the new 911 is called 991 , NOT 998.

Next time use Google or Wikipedia.
