  • at around 3:45 sounds like vai's freak show excess

  • He seems like a really nice guy to hang out with... :D

  • How can i make my guitar sound like his??

  • @Aaarrrggghhification single coil pickup, boosted treble and bass on amp, mild overdrive

  • HAHHAAHAHHAHAA!!!!! HE FINALLY MESSED UP!!!!! 3:30

  • his fingers move at unholy speed wtf

  • This guy is just amazing. He's been a great teacher over the years. I would love to have an actual lesson with him, but would probably be more content to just watch him shred for the hour.

  • "okay guys now to you just extend your 10 inch pinky across the entire fretboard and its as easy as 1 2 3"

  • @rouschino1 & @gowplayer2

    hahaha, larger than your penus!

  • nice playing with G mayor all over the fretboard :P hehe not that dificult but an interesting lick id say...

  • it's true paul has some long ass fingers and he is phenomenal....but yngwie has short to average fingers and he can blister on the guitar flawlessly too.

  • "simple" "no big task" who the hell does he think he's talking to

  • wtf, his pinky actually is longer than the others fingers almost o.o

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the intro song? Can't find it anywhere

  • the one at the end isn't TOO bad :P

  • @loveis3in1 Yeah, but it really doesn't compensate how badly he messed up at 3:30. That was awful!

    ... ;)

  • 3:25 - "and im gunna go up to the high G... just cos its fun"

  • i love the tone on the high A lol

  • He explains it so simply and it makes total sense, but damn if he doesn't make this into such a cool, interesting, AWESOME lick! : )

  • Paul isn't really human...He looks like a man talks like a man but plays like someone from out of this World...

    Living Legend ! Amazing teacher...

  • i just sharted...

  • The guy's smile says "haha you'll never do this :P"

  • Fantastic! i needed a some inspiration, thanks buddy ;-)

  • 3:36 .... thats a nice sounding A7 lick for sure

  • what distortion pedal is he using? it sounds awesome

  • @bmalle12513 probably just from the amp, it sounds awesome but its hard to play good with such a sound!

  • Oh Paul such nice attack!

  • I have troubles using fingers 1 3 4 1 3 4 1 3 4 like that. I find 1 2 3 or 1 2 4 easiest.

  • @zebatov I did too. The trick is to ignore the fact you know you can play better without doing it for a hwhile and practise practise practise. I happened to use A Minor starting from the 5th fret of bottom E to train the fingers and muscle memory. Would recommend working it in to a 3 string sweep only using those fingers too using, C, E, G, A an octave up, back to G and back down to E then C.

  • @ConerTheStoner

A minor from the 6th string up to the 1st string? I've been practicing sweeping an A minor at the 12th fret of the 5th string lately.

By those notes, I'm assuming you mean the C is 4 frets up from the starting A note (4 frets including the A - wherever it might be. In this case, 5th fret, 6th string). Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I'm just used to reading tab. So when you were naming the notes, it was sort of confusing for me.

  • one way to get to this video is to google "paul gilbert's pinky" ... seriously

  • Phenomenal player and a great teacher, wonderful stuff for aspiring guitar players to learn from.

  • Thank god he isn't using a fender.

  • each finger on his left hand should be a wonder of the world.

  • Very nice exercise!

  • oh shit look at that pinky go!!

  • 3:39 sounds like 8bit solo wtf

  • his wife must LOVE him...think about it...

  • long fingers?

  • every guitarist jeleous of his pinky ....

heard yngwie is pulling his pinky to make it long:D

  • Stratocaster neck?

  • @PinoKakelkip yeah ibanez just covers fender strat on the headstock

  • @laudennn Have you ever play 1? Totally different feel

  • Paul Gilbert....A man with very large hands to say the least. He was kind of meant to be a guitarist wasn't he.

  • He's not very good...jk

  • "im just gonna go up to the high g just cus its fun" lol show off.

  • OMG, did he just miss a note??

  • He played so fast that I threw up a little. :D Awesome!!

  • i think his pinky doesn't have any bones! lol! He's amazing!

  • shit man...that lick from 3:35 is amazing.

  • His guitar looks like mine right before I change the strings. The coloration of the frets shows exactly where he usually plays (He probably plays every fret at some point, hence "usually") Cool lesson. I'm moving to the next one now.

  • daaaamnit

  • Can someone please explain 3:42?

  • @fetacheese900 ill explain, its what happens when chuck norris plays guitar

  • and thats a nice sounding A7 lick *lets rip scarily* great guitarist! :)

  • This guy is amazing

  • ..because its fun

  • This lick's in A Mixolydian, right?

  • If you look at his pinky closely, you can see that it's not really naturally as long as it seems. Look for the web in between your fingers. He's just managed to stretch that web. Imagine that his fingers are as flexible as Jean Claude Van Damme's legs. They can both do a sort of splits. Regardless, it is still quite a pinky though.

  • MASTER !

  • He hacks. Clearly, he has robotic fingers.

  • Even his screw ups are epic...

  • One more thing to add, he doesn't scam. TRUST ME! He's not like the million guitarists on fuckin' YouTube that want your money to get "Part 2" of the lesson. You owe it to yourself to check this guy out because seriously, he will change your view on guitar completely.

Anyway, another thing to add, the video that explains the triad info is Pebber's Scaletone Form System - Level 1 Chords/Triads - Part 1 video.

LOOK IT UP :D. Good luck, dudes.

  • If you guys need scale paper to do triads, go to pbguitarstudio(dot)com and go to Lesson Downloads, Guitar Lesson PDF Files, and click on Guitar 4 Neck Diagrams.

This sheet is completely free, guys. Pebber is the man and the best free guitar teacher on YouTube. If you want to get better, check out his videos and materials. Everything is COMPLETELY FREE and amazing. He taught Buckethead, nuff' said.

  • One thing that helps is like he said, know your octaves BUT: Map out the C Major scale across the neck, on each string. It helps me so much because if I know where the C's are, I can start by making chords.

Know your triads too. Start by learning where the C's, E's, and A's are on the neck. Map them out separately. And then map them out all together on the same scale diagram and circle wherever you see CEA combination from the 6th string up to the 1st string (aka low E to high E)

  • His little finger is so alive, he'd find a G spot and rape the hell out of it 100 times over!

  • wtf!! his pinky is alive!

  • 3:30...did Paul Gilbert just make a MISTAKE? No, it can't be.. o_O

  • there was something in his eye, he doesn't make mistakes.

  • holy shit! at the end his pinky is goin crazy!!! Supa Pankey!

  • The end made me cry, it was like, "there's something you can play, *shred*, but I'm still god."

  • What a flippin' cheater. His pinky is longer than my forearm :(

  • lol.

  • @rouschno1

and mine isn't any longer then my thumb

  • @rouschno1 I've never noticed his pinky and i don't know how i managed. You can put a flag on that mother! Fuck it...i'm having surgery...

  • Yes he is an excellent teacher! This video helped me alot..

  • i love how great of a teacher he is...plus he's a complete badass at guitar lol

  • holy shit... that pinky is getting a work out

  • thank you, i was about to say. that pinky length and strength is bigger and harder than the boner i just got from watching this.

  • @gowplayer2 hahahahaha wtf u crazy bro hahahahaha lmao!!!

  • Gotta love PG!! All the way through the clip I'm thinking this is totally simple, I can play this and then at the end I'm like okay maybe not lulz.

  • wow... he used this lick at the end of the arpeggios in norwegian cowbell ( in the album Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar)

  • 3:27 hahahah I love his tone of voice on that words

  • VERY useful lesson, it's a good key to understanding of guitar neck) thanks Paul

  • @deadleaves1985

I thought I could play pretty good, I can tear up and down pentatonic, minor, major, phrygian, etc. scales almost effortlessly, but this really sort of opened my eyes with possibilities.

  • faces were melted at 3:40

  • My face also melted!

  • how the fuck does he play scales so fast?? (3:50)

  • @voncoolio he is god.

  • It's because the guitar is just an extension of his body, Paul Gilbert RULES!!!

  • I can't learn your licks when you play em so fast!

  • paul has an insane pinky

  • I was thinking the same thing!

  • 3:29 HE MADE A MISTAKE?!!?!?!

  • no he just felt like starting over ^^

  • proberbly

  • try 1:35 lol

  • out of the 2 mistakes i have ever seen him do, he's done them when demonstrating it at a slower speed.

  • meh Ive seen him make loads at higher speeds, especially when alternate picking, it happens with every guitarist, no matter how good you are when playing that many notes that fast you will occasionaly scuff a few up...unless you are shawn lane.

  • so what? a human made a mistake OH MY GOD! go to do that video by yourself if you can do that better.

  • @pepectm it was a joke it was supposed to show how awesome he was

    good reading there

  • Abducted briefly by aliens so they could assimilate his technology.

  • ¨Well there we have a proof that he is human! : D

  • its fun just watching his pinky flail around lol

  • Hey srry if i sound like stupid or something, but when he says "5th" is that like 5 notes up from a note?

  • No he means the 5th note of the major scale..

For instance if you are playing a two note power chord, the note on the string below the root note is the 5th note of the major scale..

For example the 5th of an A power chord is E..

  • ok, thanks

  • Yeah, its the 5th note in the scale. So if he was in the key of a major, using the a major scale, the root would be the A note, so the 5th (note) would be the E :)

  • Thanks :)

  • 5th notes up in the scale

  • yeh 5 notes up from the starting not within the scale in question

  • 5th note of the major scale. so if youre in the G major scale, when you get to the 5th note, you'll find its the D... which is a 5th! Also, say you played a G power chord.... the 5th is the the other note played . (eg. G+D= G power chord)

  • Holy shit, the end was just like BAM sexy

  • oh come on paul. 5 is way more interesting than 6.

  • Back in the old days he looked like dangerous dude !! but now with the haircut , you can see that this guy is a gentleman .

  • ending was super sick nasty i think pg is the only person who actually knows the notes of a guitar

  • wow that ending with the pinky haha bad ass....

  • my face......has been melted

  • i absolutely love his tone! wish i knew how to get it on my ibanez haha. hell...wish i could just take lessons from PG himself!

  • i wish i knew how to read music and what the notes are. i also wish i owned a guitar.

  • melted my face at the end

    :(

  • 3:30

    omfg he screwed up!

so he is human after all....

  • He did not screw it up, he just pretended to fail and be a human, he is a god.

  • @NisseEricsson He doesn't want to arise suspicion!

  • haha and he didn't even really mess up or hit the wrong note. He just stopped then restarted.

  • when he plays the sound of the a7 chord...isnt that mixolydian?

  • yes.

  • by itself not exactly. if it was played over a mixolydian vamp that strongly implied A as the tonic then it would be.

  • well...hes using a7...so it would be

  • my point is that it's just a lick, you could use it in any context that has an A7 in it. it depends on the rest of the progression combined with how he's playing it. Over just an A7, nothing else, then yea, it'd be mixo, but my point is that just because you're playing the notes of an A7. chord doesn't make it mixo unless the progression is inherently mixolydian.

  • ahhh

  • i started to write notes when he started playing fast but my paper caught on fire

  • I dont know why but when i watch a lesson from some one i never understand and with PG its so simple. PG AWESOME!!

  • That is one perfectly intonated guitar.

  • how can you tell? im not saying your wrong i just dont understand

  • MY FACE WAS JUST MELTED :s

  • Lol 1.35 "ooh sorry" hahaha its so automatic for him, that his fingers just play notes without him telling them too.

  • 3:25 and im gonna go up to the high g just cause its fun

  • Classic.

  • Look at 1:59 and tell me if its just me, or he has locking tuners on that bad boy?

  • no he doesnt

  • it could be his PGM300 which originally had a floyd rose, but he blocked it off and replaced the bridge, hence still having the locking tuner holes

  • he imporvises better than any guitarist ive ever heard...

  • thanks paul

    he never dissapoints me

  • Those F holes are fake :p

  • but they're so cool ;)

  • It's his signature. I wish I could afford a guitar with fake F holes!

  • very usefull! thx Paul!!!

  • really cool lick man :D

  • that final octave made me shit in my pants, i can play like that, but for some reason paul just adds mystique to it

  • it always amuses me that his 17th and 15th frets are worn out...loves e pentatonic lol.

  • Not so much the Pentatonic just the key of E he says it's a "lovely key for the instrument" and those notes appear in that key in a whole bunch of scales

  • "And I'm gonna go up to the high G just 'cause it's fun" ROFLMAO

the little part at 3:40 through 3:42 sounds a little bit like freak show excess by Steve Vai

  • the whole lick sounds like freak show excess to me

  • Only eleven pm here, but I'm tired as hell. And I'm also tempted to get my guitar out!!!

  • haha its 3am and this is makin me get out of bed and pickin up my guitar to try it out

  • 2AM here and im tempted to do the same :-P

    pretty neat and simple trick!

  • I always get that too :D

To bad my sis gets mad...

  • thats why I love the headphones I got for my amp, I can practice anytime

  • very strong pinky and ring finger.

    Paul Gilbert you OWN!!!
