  • This guy touches you or hits you lightlly and you will definatly feel his energy bouncing around inside of you even in old age.

  • Taiji no doubt is an effective combative technique. Hopefully, one day, some Taiji masters will go and fight in the UFC ring to establish a position for this school of martial art, as Brazilian jujitsu and Western boxing do. That will be the ultimate proving ground.

  • @oilcraze Why would they want to do something like that. Once you are a true master, you have nothing to prove. Only the noobs in the game of kung fu has something to prove.

  • @Jubeski

Bruce Lee was able to achieve the highest level of excellence through actual combats against his opponents and peers. In science, a theory has to be proven valid through emperical experimentation. Martial art is a sport, and as with any other sport, the only way to prove an individual or a school's capability or excellence is through competition. That's why Judo is included in the Olympics as well. How do you know if an individual is a true master or not if there is no proof.

  • @oilcraze Very true but this is the perception of the majority of westerners and what they think about the art. Bruce Lee was good but can never be considered a true master since he did not reach the internal level of wing chun. He only knew the first 2 forms and adapted many other fighting styles to aid him in his fighting techniques. What did Jet Li do after he killed his opponent in the duel of who's the best in the movie 'Fearless'? Kung Fu's real secret is inner peace for oneself.

  • I encountered a Daoist text, which said, that if one must use Chi for martial arts, they should use the chi that is AROUND them, not the chi of their own body. However learning to manipulate environmental Chi, is EXTREMELY hard. Far as I know, there aren't any masters in China who can do it; there were, in the past, I don't know if there are any now.

  • Across Kung Fu books I've encountered several methods of channeling Chi for martial arts, but I personally strongly dislike all of them. I personally do not know how to channel, or "fire" it, but I consider those techniques dangerous. Chi, is the body's life energy, constantly "firing" it in a fight, will in time deplete your body's chi, and over time you grow weaker and weaker, at least that's my theory.

  • The Chen style of Tai Chi, uses three frames;

    1) The soft frame, don't know what its called, where the moves are done in slow motion.

    2) The Pao Chui or "cannon fist," which closely ressembles Shaolin Kung Fu, and finally

    3) The Chen small frame, consisting of slow, small movements as the name implies, the Chen small frame does not use big moves, however it focuses the Chi as a "cork screw."

  • There are two "Wu" styles in China;

    1) The one derived from the Yang form named here being the Wu Jianqian style (spellings vary)

    2) The other, being the Hao Wei Zheng style, which is derived from the Chen small frame.

Hence, one of the "Wu" styles, is derived from the Yang, and the other "Wu" style is derived from the most advanced frame of the Chen.

  • which style of taiji is this?

  • According to the info, Master Wu Tunan studied Wu and Yang. It doesn't look like Yang to me but I think Yang Shaohou's branch was a bit different.

So, I'm with you in your confusion.

  • its this sort of thing that affirms in my soul that chinese refinement and arts are the pinnacle of human endevour

  • Truly inspiring vid!! I wisl I could move and smile like this when I'm 80, 90 or more years!!! many thanks for posting the clip, my friend!. Peace. Lucas

  • what is the application of those wrist flicks that he does close to the beginning, before single whip...looks like he's got a switchblade! ha ha

  • Could be something for qinna or maybe just an excercise to keep the wrists working.

  • he is doing Tai ji with one finger)

  • Thanks for Posting this one!!! Awesome!

  • Very Special. I am grateful to have seen it. Thank you for sharing this.

  • damn he lived to 103 yrs old!!

  • my sifu says the wu stylists live the longest as their the softest it's interesting how different his style is compared to the competition forms

  • At highest lvl of MA, physical strength & techs bcome irrelevant. At tht lvl even with a simple taiji wardoff u already can defeat many fighters. I've seen a 6th Dan Aikido master with complex techs been thrown by a simple taiji peng. U know wht I mean if u can go beyond techs in MA. Best regards friend

  • thank you for your explanation. It is good to know that there are people around with who have something usefull to say. I think you could very well be right in what you are saying and i believe you understand martial arts and their principles. Best regards to you too.

  • well said!!

  • I started martial arts practise to defend myself, since it was needed. now i know more about them but still they seem only to be of use if i can defeat someone with them. I understand that many martial arts are about finding rest and are used to get rid of stress, or to heal ( i must practise taiji because i have a bad knee ), but i probably would not if it wasn't suporting my controll and movement in other martial arts i practise. Or do you think otherwise?

  • Hi Moordrecht, u r rite tht martial arts must be able to fight besides self cultivation. In fact it goes hand-in-hand. Highest lvl of MA is abt knowing self and mastering self. Believe me whn u can do tht ur fighting ability escalates with it.

  • What form is this? Is it a form from Yang Style?

  • GM Wu Tu Nan lived to over 100! and was a famous disciple of Wu style Tai Chi founder Wu Jian Chuan 8).

  • thank you for posting this :)

    beautiful beautiful beautiful....

  • Great skills! Just amazing.

  • YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING OMG....THIS PERSON IS SO GOOD....for all of you who think this is just sume empty form, look at the TRUE FLUID MOVEMENT and RELAXATIONG OF HIS FORM

  • too much external hand movements, no internal. body seems floating, not grounded.

  • Of course your reputation exceeds Wu Tunans?? Classic stuff from the very old masters.. THEIR forms look nothing like the forms beginners are taught for good reason. The ultimate aim of ALL martial artists is to lose the form and the art to become yours (expect it to take a lifetime). Also when the internal is VERY highly developed there is little need of a flashy good looking external form so what you see (truth) is in fact very little...

  • awesome

  • This sequence is call "Yong Jia" taught from Master Yang Shao Hou to Master Wu Tunan. It's part of Yang style, but it is for a very high level.

  • Very cool vid, I hope I live that long and move that good.

  • Thanks. I asked master and he suggested it might be Wu. Boy, I'd sure hate to have to try to hit him. He's got nothing there to hit!

  • take it easy, he would never challenge anyone except his students

  • STupid arrogance mentality. Martial art is about humanity, humbleness and self cultivation. Don't pass judgement on Wu Tu Nan if you don't know anything about this man. Many renounced martial artists at his time willing to become his disciple not for no reason. High level kungfu is not like those cow fighting you see in UFC.

  • You are right, but i do nog agree that martial arts are only about humanity, hubleness and self cultivation. Especialy japanese and thai martial arts have high agression levels and are ment for the real battle. or at least their old forms were.

  • Basically, martial art starts as the art of damage/killing your enemy. It's the martial arts with religion background (or practised/changed by people with religion background) that are less aggressive.

  • it's Wu style of Tai Ji of Wu Jian Quan. Be careful it's not the Wu style Wu Yu Xiang who is called now more Hao style (because influenced by Hao Wei Zhen)

  • What style is this?? I don't recognize any sequences from the Yang Long Form.

  • This sequence is call "Yong Jia" taught from Master Yang Shao Hou to Master Wu Tunan. It's part of Yang style, but it is for a very high level.

  • I have this clip on a taiji VHS compilation with no explanation of who or what style it is.

    Thank you very much.

  • Do you have more videos of master Wu tunan???

    I really hope you do!

    Bye
