It's a great OS for those who do nothing but chat or go to social networks basically.
I'm all for any Google product. I hope that they can knock Windows off of it's high perch on the OS market, especially if it's something superior and intuitive. My problem, though: I use my computer for MORE than "just" the Internet. I play games, like Age of Empires or WoW. I run word processing programs, like Word. If Google can make an OS that can do everything Windows can, but better, I wouldn't look back. I got excited as hell when I hear the term "Chrome OS", but not now.
Well.. it means that all your personal data will be stored on google servers. Dumb thing for someone to store his data there. So Cromium is a piece of s... errr... crap.
Basically its a Splashtop OS, but on splashtop you can do things like import pictures too. I use expressgate but I need a full OS to do things like database work, for this to be successful they would need to incorporate an executable program platform so people can run the programs they want to. What could really make this current idea pop would be he ability to install and boot it from a USB Drive (Portable OS) all my links and stuff anywhere I go would be amazing to have.
My Windows 7 computer boots in 15 seconds from 0 to Firefox, thanks to SSD. My Windows 8 boots in 8 seconds to Firefox. Next time check your facts before making a propaganda, Google.
I've never shut down my computer in the entire year+ I've had my computer. Boot time is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is sleep-wakeup time, which is already less than a second on almost all computers anyway.
Dear god, if this were anymore dumbed down, I'd feel like Helen Keller over here. That being said, nice idea Google, but I think I'll stick with my gaming rig...
Hey Google this is a great idea but some peple also want to play games on their computer or use it for different other things wich are not possible with an Google Chrome OS. So why is ther no Computer wich optimized for the Internet and wich is very fast to boot up but wich alos has the ability to run Windows/Linux. The real OS could be loaded while the user is already enjoing the internet. This would be fast an clever:
Some Asus motherboards have a mini OS complete with web browser and file manager that you can use even before the BIOS boots up. It would be cool to have a motherboard that starts up really fast in Chrome OS, and, if you want to do something else with your computer (play games and whatnot), start up your bigger OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix, DOS if you're into that sort of thing).
I don't understand why the chromebooks are so thick, so bulky for computers that have one sole purpose. Make the battery life huge by making the most of the space, and make it really thin.
?Hmmm...lemme think. Offline? This operating system makes your computer about as useful as a brick. On windows I have massive crazy awesome games, that playing completely over the internet is impossible. How am I gonna write papers when I am away from wifi? Was this thought through?
@GIGeoffrey this technology is still being progressed, as said in the video its not for everyone just "most of us" who will almost always have internet with them(business managers/owners), im sure someday soon google os will take over the market... especially windows from Microsoft. Google os will just have to become much popular enough for people such as game developers to implement the internet more to load and render gaming but as i said technology is not there yet but the innovation is :]
@FerlingTech101 Okay, lemme rephrase. Gaming, for games that are literally 8 GB starting out will not be possible. And this is a netbook thing anyway. That is its sole purpose. There is no use to gamers. Or programmers who make heavyweight programs. This will not take over windows (I surely hope it won't) because windows is useful offline (as are most modern operating systems) Data speed has not progressed enough to make this useful. And I frigging love Windows and linux anyway
Gee, 45 seconds to get on the internet, what planet is he on. If you use a i Mac computer, and you have a cable connection, (do people still hook up by phone line, nah that cant be, its the 21st century,) then you dont need Google chromium, or platinum or gold or whatever new gimmick they come up with to sell to advertisers so they can become the new millionaire.
I wonder how much memory you would get on the internet OS for downloading movies and music etc. That is if SOPA doesnt stop it.. still this seems like the future, no more will people need huge hard drives, even for various programs it will all just stream from the internet. Looks like google is looking to take on both microsoft and facebook at the same time! heres hoping they both go bankrupt.
Novel idea for an OS, like the other guy said, would be useful to have as a secondary boot option if you only going to use the internet, otherwise, a computer with an OS that only browses the internet would be far too limited. I can see this shifting personal computing into a new paradigm in which all activities are performed on the internet.
this thing has its own applications...like giving it to a grandma or AN EMPLOYEE that doesnt have a college degree and still be able to have smart management for the business thru webapps...i love this concept long live the web
Great video! Interesting, informative & entertaining. well its actually not bad for those who socil network all day long, porn, movies, etc i.e. sit only on the net. its pretty good!! BUT I WOUNT USE THIS!! i need my games and development tools, and TORRENT!!!
I must say that this is perfect for notebooks / low specs computausorus that still sleeps in my mom's cave. However, without a proper Internet connection.....It sucks. Still, it's lightweight and user friendly.
If you don't want to pay a SSD for faster acces, this is the easiest way around.
Great product overall, just strange the first times.
So much rage in the comments whilst this works fine for people who only use the computer as an internet-machine. And no, I don't use the internet all the time, in reality I spend like 70% of the time spent on the computer playing games ie. Metro2033.
@HenriKorpela if my internet connection does not work the only thing i can do with my computer is defrag, open windows explorer and watch my desktop icons!!!
What a con... To Display Webpages, you need gui which needs to be stored then read from your harddrive, which means you still need a memory management system like windows, and you still need basic services to get things working like a driver interface for your I/O which means you also need a task management system, which means it's an operating system anyway... And you can't skip POST and the bios anyway as that's inbuilt on all computer, and there the things that make booting up so slow...
But what if connection to the internet is lost when working on something important?
This might be good for people who use nothing but a web browser on a computer, but personally I prefer locally stored programs, and files on my home network.
Seems like Google is basing this whole OS on people with ADHD who can't wait 30 seconds for their computer to turn on. That's the only selling point I'm seeing here.
...Im no computer geek... and i actually understood everything. He truly dumbed this down to what i, or anyone could understand... huh.... WHY ISNT HE TEACHING MY MATH CLASS!?!?!?!?

What a condescending load of tripe. I use a lot more on my computer than "the internet'. I'm not so stupid that I don't know what "stateless" means. And no, I do not want EVERYTHING on the cloud.
My motherboard has its own browser built in.. If I dont want to wait for my computer to load up I can just click on browser before fully booting up :O .
what about half the world with iPhones and iPads? Is iTunes integrated in this OS? I doubt apple is letting that happen. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves with the "Cloud" idea. I agree with another post on here, I wouldn't trust everything I have being stored on Google's Server. This sounds like the worst Linux Distro (which I am assuming it is). Fedora and Ubuntu take the cake for me (minus no iTunes there either and no Netflix). A OS that is a browser? Really? Fail!
You know, I was satisfied with my Chromebook for a couple of days, settling on the idea that the benefits of such a computer for its simplicity and no-nonsense operation outweighed the inconvenience of a cheap, slow, nearly useless Atom processor, but then a Google Chromebook Ninja "helped" me, wasting hours and hours more of my time because she refused to acknowledge it was the processor, instead blaming my connection.
I don't know what people are talking about when they say Chrome sucks. Chrome rocks! I also love this commercial because the guy is talking like he's only talking to me, not through a commercial. I like that because it's easy to listen to. It's very explanatory and advertises Chrome very nicely. I've always had Chrome, but if I didn't and I just saw this commercial, I'd go and download it right this second! A job nicely done, Chrome! [=
@Googlechrome I feel abandoned by Google. Chrome is crashing 24/7. Up to date.
More then 1 tab with flash crashes. Google websites have strange bugs in chrome but not other browsers. This makes me wan't to goto ie9. What happened? Chrome was great. but as things started going more, 'Google' it got horrible. Flash not made by adobe for it causes chrome to hang with all tabs. not one! Adobe's flash just crashes alone. not taking chrome. Java? slow. Youtube? Crash engine. HTML video tag support? no
wait did i just see that vid show that the bios deteriorates overtime i think that google should just stick to what it is for, being a search engine, developing chrome and every thing else it did before this shit
Linux FTW! Boots in 10 seconds, counting logging in! Using Chromium Browser Nightly, runs faster than Google Chrome browser by a land slide, I win! :DD *parties*
Actually, a really cool idea. Wouldn't be practical for me NOW, but as more and more things become designed to be part of the 'cloud'...wouldn't be surprised if we all have these things five years from now.
Google Chrome OS is not more than a WebKit Webbrowser running on a little Kernel written by Google. You can not play any games like "Call of duty" or similar. I think, you can do much more with hobby operating systems like ReactOS, so, why using Chrome OS?
I have a Dell one, with a hefty 8GB of internal storage, 1GHz processor and 1GB of ram. Now i could mess about installing Linux and then spend hours tinkering trying to get everything working properly, or i could just install this.
I think I am the target market for Chrome OS having a virtually redundant device that can now be made re usable, easily. Would not dream of converting my main PC away from win7 though, Mmmmmm Windows.....
Most things that you do on the internet, are usually linked to your files offline such as documents and pictures, what if you wanted to download programs to play games etc etc...
What if you to play minecraft or steam?

Most annoying voice over ever. High-pitched and condescending sounding. I have to watch this on mute.

HTML video tag support? no

Where to download?
Dominic14F 1 month ago
I have a Dell one, with a hefty 8GB of internal storage, 1GHz processor and 1GB of ram. Now i could mess about installing Linux and then spend hours tinkering trying to get everything working properly, or i could just install this.
I think I am the target market for Chrome OS having a virtually redundant device that can now be made re usable, easily. Would not dream of converting my main PC away from win7 though, Mmmmmm Windows.....
