We use the alternatives where we can, working with animals is less than desirable. But in some cases, like the one presented, where complex interactions of organs are investigated, there is no alternative.

They do human trials all the time with paid 'volunteers' from the public - lots of uni students did it when I was there, I nearly did, they offer a fair bit of money.

If we were to rely on results given by animal testing it would be considered safe for humans to ingest Cigarette smoke, alcohol, asbestos, arsenic and benzene among other harmful substances. You really think scientists want to use animals? They are expensive, unpredictable, make for lousy controls and if they are vertebrates you have to get past the ethical commission. We use the alternatives where we can, working with animals is less than desirable. But in some cases, like the one presented, where complex interactions of organs are investigated, there is no alternative.

@tool2342 Those are low risk experiments that have been animal tested and approved for the testing of humans,and those need mostly blood samples from the subjects.A standard experiment needs 24hour surveillance and whatever place you put him it will be a prison,no one would agree to be tested with,example,an overdose of serum so we can see what it does to the nervous system,you can only test approved drugs on people and even that can end badly.If there was an alternative we would be using it

Petersburg could show you how much humans need animal fur, the alternatives are not nearly as effective, and we are in a recession, as well as the fact that animals need to be hunted at regular intervals, failure to do so upsets the balance of the food chain and you get anomalies, example is an increase of deer population, it means that its predator will also increase in population and so some other species will decrease

You do know that with PETA, they're no better. They kill animals too. And if it wasn't for animal testing how would we have make breakthroughs in science and medicine? Sure some animals get hurt, but the pros sorta outweigh the cons. So before you judge, see both sides of the issue and think for yourselves.

Now animal testing is getting outdated and human subjects wield far better data as it's more accurate to our own species. Saying "the pros outweigh the cons" is not only shameless favoritism, but inaccurate. 100 million animals die in horrific tests and many of them are cosmetic or don't yield good results. The pros are far weaker than the cons.

And yes while I believe that animal cruelity is wrong,but with PETA isn't as good as they seem, they've killed plenty of animals as well, so if anything they're nothing but a hypocritical terrorist group who prey on the weak minded with false words and propaganda, so really they're no better. @MegaOrwell1984 I can partly agree. PETA euthanizes pets instead of letting them be adopted, which they see as "enslaving" them. However, if you were completely against animal cruelty, you would at least be partially against animal testing.

But what I'm saying is that it's sometimes needed for medical purposes, like finding a cure for cancer and AIDS. and I was like you once, I was completly aginst animal testing and listened to what PETA said. But as I got older, my mom told me that before I judge something I should look at both sides of the issue.

I am completely against for the fact that stem cell research and other experimental treatments look more promising, and the fact that I wouldn't want a cat or any pet of mine killed simply to save me. If we were to rely on results given by animal testing it would be considered safe for humans to ingest Cigarette smoke, alcohol, asbestos, arsenic and benzene among other harmful substances. It was epidemiological research that has conclusively proven all of them to be hazardous to humans.

@jlynnicious - Unfortunately the technology doesn't exist at present for us to have the best of both worlds and as much as I don't condone animal cruelty I would prefer them to suffer rather than my children or family because we didn't have a cure for them. Every single pharmaceutical drug evere realeased has been tested on animals first and before everyone says they should test them on child killers etc, I agree they should but that's never goin to happen.

When implementing pharmaceutical drugs into society it is done on the basis of previous use of similar compounds already being used. It is then monitored for side-effects. Why would these measured need to be taken if testing drugs on animals proved they were safe?? Now ask your self what is the animal experimentation doing??
