would you know how to clean a gas tank by chance? ive tried multipule ways to clean it but the rust just keeps commming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is a tractor show comming up soon and i really want to bring my tractor! any help would be great
8N wiring is so simple that it would probably be easier to remove the wiring, paint and replace the wiring. If the wiring is old, replace it. You can build a harness (copying the old one) or purchase a new harness. If you are making the effort, do it right, otherwise paint the whole thing pink and forget about the details.
so on like moving parts like steering wheel, pto, and tires do you just paint over them or take them apart then paint it? currently trying to restore my granpas 58 massy
Fantastic video! I do have a question though, Your schematic shows a pos ground system. Do you know why these system were used?. Thank you for posting this!!
Great Job!!! I spent a lot of time on the 1948 ford tractor from the time I was 12 until I 19. I would bottom plow in the fall. Sometime I would bust up some new land. And in the spring I would disk the land to get it ready to plant. I miss those days. Great tractor!!!
dear sir I want to thank you for posting a great video. I am aspiring man who wants to be a doctor but my question is where did you learn all these skills? where did you start? and also how long did it take you to finish this project?
I have a 8N ford tractor, i have two questons, first how do you renew the tractor's rear wheel bearing? The 2nd queston is, where do you get replacement parts/tools for the tractor?
Nice Old 8N I just bought a 1948 8N with a deerborn loader (no bucket someone replaced with a make shift blade) moves snow great. She keeps treating me right maybe she will get a make over. For now she ain't the best looking gal but she is dependable. Thanks for the Video enjoyed it.
How do you spell that product you used on the steer wheel - sounds like 4putty - but web searches didn't find anything. A list of the products would be helpful.
This video is very helpful to me. I'm quite ignorant about mechanics but love the beauty of the tractor and the elegant simplicity of the engine. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Fine video. A lot to cover in the time limit - youtube time limits and all. I like the use of bedliner I bet that would help a lot. Thanks for the post.
Great video. I have an early 8N myself in the incorrect blue color. The problem is that the tractor is just too darn useful to take it apart for paint and I don't have a spare tractor, it it will have to stay blue and gray (like a civil war battle). Is that a Studebaker truck in the background in one of your slides??
Yes these are very useful machines. I took this 8N out of service 2 years ago when I bought a Bobcat. I have to admit it is much easier and safer to use. I am thinking of selling the 8N, it's taking up too much space, but it has been a real friend.
Yes that is a 1949 Stude Pickup. See my Stude videos....
Yes stock tractors were 6 volt positive ground, but negative ground is the most common. To avoid problems I wired it positive ground. The only thing that needs reversing is the AmpMeter (and the generator must be polarized for positive ground)
Great job on the vid and restoration! I have a 1948 8N that my Dad's brother bought new. Its complete but needs to be completely rebuilt. I will be refering back to this video for assistance:)
excellent vid, Im from England originally and now live here in KY. I bought a 48 8n and like it a lot. What advantage is there converting over to 12v from 6v? The only complaint on mine is the steering box is very worn and will soon need rebuilt. thanks.
Thank you. Converting o 12 volt essentially half's the current in the starter and lets you use an alternator. I wanted to keep mine original so I kept the 6 volt system (looks much cooler too). It has never failed to start, even at -10 below zero F.
I actually rebuilt this tractor twice. The first time I rebuilt the engine. Used the 8N for 8 years mowing and plowing and the engine is still in great shape. Wish I had taken photos of the rebuild but digital cameras were expensive back then!!
Before you painted the frame,How did you clean everything to accept paint?Did you pressure wash it,sand blast or whatever?I am new at this.I am trying to restore a 1963 Massey Ferguson 97 diesel.
Cleaned everything with Marine Clean (POR15) or ZEP Murado. Then pressure washed. Did this several times. Then use metal ready (POR15) or any paint prep treatment, especially on bare metal. Then a good PPG Automotive primer (mine was rust colored), then Ford Red.
Beautiful 8N

I know! I have seen many 8Ns with the wrong colors. You can purchase the proper colors from any New Holland Tractor dealer in spray and cans.
