I love American cars, they're rugged, tried & true. Whenever you visit the far reaches of Canada, it's not the latest Jag you see, or the Mercedes because those things would break within weeks. It's Ford, Dodge, Chevy trucks that will always rule the great west. Japanese and European makers are jealous of that. I do own a European car, they're good for the city but add two inches of water they're useless.

Yeah, I've heard of the Land Rover Defenders and Mercedes G-Wagon. They're great cars, not not good for common people. American trucks offer the same durability but at an affordable rate, far more dependable too. The problem with the Mercedes g-Wagon is a problem all others face with too, that's steep hill climbing. Hummers (GM) can do more than a G-Wagon.

Hey I like you that you're not overly aggressive when you want to make a point, so I'll give you respect for that, but I can't agree with you that American cars are more dependable then European ones. ill give u an example. I have a BMW X5 with 150,000 km on it, (around 95,000 miles) and not a single problem, ever, except for regualr inspections. My friend recently got a new Malibu and the check engine light came on like within 2 months..Just saying you need to think longterm too...

I own an Mercedes ML430, i was considering an X5. I think European cars, particular Mercedes and BMW are fabolous. But in the long run, sure they can last a long time but consider the conditions of northern Canada. rough roads, etc. Parts and labour are expensive for BMW/Merc, whereas GM it isn't. Look at the Buick Enclave, it's much superior to the GL, X5 and Escalade. American vehicles are kicking up their game

I don't know if you knew but ford owns jaguar, they are like disposible cars, so downgraded in the quality of materials, underengineered compared to the import competition (excluding brands like kia and hyundai) besides, yes the car might be a bit just cheaper than the rival brand, but in the long run it's going to be more expensive. engineering and craftsmanship over anything I say. they make nice pick ups though, if they want to win costumers they need to improve their standarts and quality.
