Brilliant and unusual rendition,charming yet being a bit too light overall...but it is well known that personal taste...rules.Both for performer and listener.
i like the look of the 2 piano version which comes up on the video.
The themes is played beautifully,but some of the later variations are brilliant but lack depth- a dimension is missing,and it's got nothing to do with whether it's played on the harpsichord or piano.
Originale e molto interessante.
Sorry for the differing opinion on those who prefer the 'urtext' performance and instrument--but personally the harpsichord always jangles my nerves--why indeed, I would also say, do you think its limited tonal range was abandoned by composers after the 1790's? Hmm--not with the violin or many other instruments. This music--and played this well--is even more beautifully sonorous on the piano--sorry.....
I can't believe that you listened to the harpsichord versions (there are several here). If you do, you will have to take your words back. On piano it's nice, but on the Harpsichord it's powerful. On the piano it's fine, but on the harpsichord, it's memorable

Very good playing but oh so wrong! This is a harpsichord tune.
Every little turn goes missing on the piano.not to tell of the brilliance once put into thepiece

If you google "imslp" and click "composers" you should be able to find Rameau in 'R' and his Gavotte is there. Good Luck juanpasolan86!

All are great ! a perfect stairway to heaven !

I'd say the most progressive for that ERA is the 4:49 variation
modo501 1 year ago
The best is the 6th variation at 6:40

Are you sure this is Sylvia Càpova playing? My Mariàn Pivka CD has the exact same rendition, which is only 5 variations.

@exciter69
I'm pretty sure there are six variations but I will check it.

You're right. I have the sheet, and there are 7 movements:
The first one is "Gavotte" and the others its 6 variations.
