  • Good video. However, I'm still torn between the D7000 and the K-5. I suppose I'm still undecided as I know where I am with a Nikon and have never owned a Pentax. What would you recommend?

  • great overview, I just got a K5 with the 17-70f4 (the QC issues on 16-50 SDM mtor scared me off) -- looking into some of the limited primes now!

  • This afternoon I went shooting in the street with my little handbag. In it, there was :

    - my K-5 and a pentax 50mm 1.4 attached on it

    - a kind of huge tamron 28-75 2.8

    - an enormous samyang 14mm 2.8

    - my k-1000's body (I shoot film also)

It was quite heavy but I had no problem sticking all this stuff in my handbag, thanks to the small size of the K-5 and 50mm.

  • In my field in photography & shooting style, Pentax provides me what I REALLY need. Just like you friend, If I'm on assignments I attach my grip on my K7 with my 10-24 and bring my 50 f1.4 & 135 f2.5 (will replace after I get a 50-135 & 16-50: it's like having a 24-70 & 70-200 setup on a FF Nikon or Canon but smaller and lighter). And if I want want to go very light and discreet, I also remove the grip, and bring my 28, 50, & 85 (hopefully replace all those old lenses with 15, 35, & 77 LTDS). =)

  • Thank you for the video! The limiteds sure look nice, I'd love one or two for my trusty old K100D super... On a side note, I quite fancy the retro shoulder strap. Could somebody tell me the brand/ model? Thank you!

  • what s the song please :)

    great photos ;)

  • Why not just get the 31mm f1.8 limited? That pretty much the only lens you need.

  • I now want PENTAX! I did before but you have confirmed my decision. Thanks!

  • I was fine with this video until they threw their religion into it at the end.

  • Ive tried owned and enjoy!

  • I have the budget version of this set up. A pentax K-r, 35mm 2.4 and 70mm 2.4. I have a camera bag designed to take just a DSLR with lens attached. No side compartment. But I have a small lens case. Stick one lens in the lens case. Shove that into the bottom of the bag, and I still have room for the camera to sit on top.

I also have a Pentax F 35-70mm 3.5-4.5, which must be the smallest zoom lens I've seen (excluding those for mirrorless cameras), and can fit that in the lens case if I want..

  • Yep, K-5 + pancakes are unique. Great quality, and they put the fun back into street photography.

  • I used Pentax for over a year but moved to Nikon recently. Why?

Well leaving aside the Pentax K-r which couldn't AF in tungsten light (and Pentax had no fix for it)

Size isn't everything. There are some nice limited lenses but some damn odd ones who wants to buy a 21mm f3.2 limited? Where is the 50mm f1.8? The 16-50mm f2.8 is quite slow for AF, the Pentax 43mm f1.9 FA Limited is over £650, Pentax 15mm f4.0 SMC DA ED AL Limited is over £550 and isn't great optics wise (rather average really)

  • I'm a Pentax loyalist still hanging on to my K10D along with a bunch of Takumars an FA50/1.4, 18-250 zoom and a Tamron 90/2.8 macro. I like this video because I am hoping to get a K-5 later this year. I rented the 35/2.8 LTD macro for my K10D and I loved it. Those LTD lenses are absolutely stunning. A three lens kit of those would be a dream. With Pentax about ready (I hope) to announce something soon to replace the K-5, maybe the price will continue to drop. Great vid, keep up the good work!

  • Wonder full to watch, check out my Pentax related videos, I'm sure you like it!

  • Pentax was my first film camera, and from what I'm reading, it looks like I'm going with the K5

  • I am Pentax user and I really love limiteds. I am planning to sell my two Sigma lenses (which are good lenses and fast focusing) and buy DA70, DA40 and later DA15 lenses. This will be my system. The only thing I am worried that zoom is more versatile as it gives you more convenience at lets say some events where you have to do everything quickly. Earlier I did not care for the weight (my Sigma weights 1.3kg alone) however the more time I hold it the more tired I get.

  • @Kenttas don't worry about not having zoom. I did for myself a little experiment once: I set 30mm on my 18-55 kit lens and forgot about zoom ring for a whole day (on purpose). It worked for me! Now I use zoom very rarely. You should try this!

  • This is why I'm loyal to Pentax, my first one was the K200D now I have the K-7 and it's fantastic. The future is bright for Pentax now that it's with Ricoh and excited for the next update to succeed the K-5.

By the way...the K-7 and K-5 have the best sounding shutter, buttery smooth and quiet, I'm sure it's one of the things Nikonians and Canonites envy of Pentax against Canon and Nikon's loud and hard mirror slap.

  • pentax is the fucking best. i love my k7

  • I love your passion for Pentax, the K-x was my first Digital Camera, I still miss it to this day. The K-5 is an excellent camera, best in it's class. No other camera can touch it. Rugged: being a fully weather sealed body was what intrigued me about the K-5, which will cost you an arm and leg on the Canikon system. Then, there's the fact that you can put on any number of lens on these bodies. I have two old, fully manual focus lens that i used on my K-x. Great and fun times. Long Live Pentax

  • I just bought the k-5. I'm 18 and this is only my second slr. I once had the t2i, but decided this is where my heart is. I only have the stock lens, and I'm going to buy the old Super Takumar 50 mm 1.4 (because I'm super broke, haha). What would you recommend out of the pentax lenses for extreme sharpness and amazing portraits? And would you be willing to sell one to me?:D Thanks!

  • @tvfootlint Sounds like you're off to a GREAT start! There are some bargains to be had in the M series lenses for Pentax. The 50 1.4 M and 28mm 2.8 M or A for that matter, are winners for sure. You could cover a lot of photography with a 28mm and 50 for sure. Thanks! - Edward

  • @tvfootlint

    Hey,

You should try the Pentax DAL 35 f2.4.

The Pentax community call it "the plastic wonder", it's surely the best price/performance rate for a Pentax lens.

It cost less than 200$ (170€ here in Europe)

Here is a test dot photozone dot de/pentax/598-pentax_35_24

  • I'm a multi-system user (Pentax, Sony, Canon, Sigma) and I do love the Pentax Limiteds. One thing that the Canon/Nikon does have though are those beautiful Zeiss primes, which are admittedly MF only, but their focus ring feels smooth and damped. That's something I found superior to the Pentax Limiteds. On the pentax side, however, with in-body stabilization, all those Limiteds are now stabilized. That's something Canon/Nikon will never have. A big point for me.

  • Hello Edward, If you could have placed this video some 3 weeks back I would have got a K-5. I now have a Canon EoS 60D. Anyways, you compared the size D700-Nikon and 5D Mark II. These beasts are full frame sensor and large but if you compare the crop sensor body say D7000 and 7D with K-5 I guess the sizes would be comparable. I agree that both Canon and Nikon will struggle when it comes to primes and compared to Pentax Limiteds. As of now i only have a 50mm prime which is awesome.

  • @DWScorp Sorry about that! Hey the 60D is a fine camera and you will be very pleased with it. I actually think you would be surprised how much smaller the K-5 is over the D7000 and 7D. There are some really awesome primes in Canon land, but you are not going to like the prices or the weight! The L24mm 1.4 II, L35mm 1.4, and 85mm 1.2 are some really amazing products. (Don't tell anyone :) but I'm taking a hard look at the EOS 1DX! Not to replace the K-5, but along side it...) - Edward

  • Hi Edward, I soooo get it fella! After many months of studying my options for my return to photography after many year off, I was all set for buying a 5D mkii and L series glass. Now I have a K-5 instead thanks to you. It's saved me a fortune, without compromising on quality. Bonus is, still have couple old pentax 35mm cameras + lens, all of which I can use (for now) on my K-5. But I'm saving hard for 35mm limited prime. Can't thank you enough. Best regards, Darreyl. (from across the pond).

  • @MrDazza64 Hi Darreyl! The 5DII does have a SLIGHT advantage in terms of IQ resolution, but only if you're printing 20x30 prints on a regular basis. But the Pentax 645D is better than the 5DII, and on and on, so where do you draw the line? It really comes down to why have a more expensive camera that on a daily basis is heavy and a big blob when you can get the results you want with a camera that inspires you to shoot? I know you will be extremely satisfied with your choice! Thanks - Edward

  • Cool. Now I know what I need. Is the Sigma 70-210 really needed? How often do you use yours?

  • @tabl10s I actually would recommend the Tamron 70-210 over the Sigma. (See my Tamron 70-210 review :) )

It's cheaper, sharper, and faster AF using the screw drive on the Pentax. (So I DON'T reccommend the Tamron for Nikon/Canon shooters...) - Edward
