  • This could turn out to be interesting. If the media companies actually do go against lots of everyday folks for those kinds of damages, we could very well see an actual revolution. We could see hundreds of millions of people, (worldwide), refusing to watch commercial television or go to movies. So read a book!

Yeah, man, it will be war, and the media companies will be the ones going bankrupt. Even if everybody cut down 20%, it would be disastrous for the media companies.

    What a boon for NPR!

  • @Astrobrant2 I meant PBS. Well, both of them.

  • @Astrobrant2 I've already given up on commercial television. Its pure brainwashing bullshit.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri I stopped watching it years ago. I only watch sports any more, and even then, only certain events that I am interested in.

Now I'm going to make a response to my earlier comment of the "on the other hand" type.

  • @Astrobrant2 OTOH...I don't think the government is going to give out the information that you are concerned about.

I don't know anything about this service that was taken down, but I suspect that they were doing something illegal. Maybe allowing people free downloads if they made uploads? Artists and recording companies are entitled to income from their CDs. Web sites which allow people to get this content for free are engaged in piracy, pure and simple, and so are their users.

  • @Astrobrant2: Exceeeept... when they aren't. Many can and have shown they used the service legitimately to send home videos they did not want on YouTube, music and independant videos (like the sci-fi shorts distributed and created specifically FOR use by BitTorrent users). The one serious screwup the US DOJ made was not following due process since there are plenty of legit users caught up in this.

  • @RyuDarragh Too bad about them. I have lots of videos on YouTube and it would be a great loss for me if it was taken down because of rampant illegal activity. That's the way the cookie crumbles, I guess.

  • @Astrobrant2: Material Harm. Laws can be "nullified" and "Material Harm" is a perfect reason. All you need to do is get enough people to make prosecution of a law impossible to pay no attention to the law in question. If juries refuse to convict, the law goes bye bye.

  • So is this how Obama will try to get votes?? Seems counterproductive to me.

  • @youvexme I don't care who's trying to get anything anymore. I'm going 2nd amendment.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri Totally understandable. I´ve never been so disillusioned myself. I think the rest of the world should just wake up, get a divorce from America, and pull out and let it wither. Just stop buying our products, Maybe that would send a message.
