@carmendlb It's their job to be on your ass 24/7. Every recruit that goes in knows this, and if they don't, then they would actually turn out to be the best in their group. My uncle was a DI, and needless to say, he's a sweetheart lol. But, as for knocking them out, trust me, I wanted to knock my DI out too, but it's easier said than done. Plus, they look skinny and even scrawny, but they are definitely not easy to take down in a brawl. Besides, I'm buddies with mine, so whatevs.

I went to bootcamp in '87, I don't recall pick-up being this orderly. When they told us to get online, it was madness and mayhem for the next couple of hours. It didn't stop, there was never a break in silence.
Crap, we lost our first recruit in the first 5 minutes of the order to get online, when he started crying and refused to train.

Interesting that in the marines DIs are referred to as sir. In the army you never refer to any NCO as sir; if you did you would be corrected with a comment such as "don't call me sir, I work for a living'. Sir is for officers only.
