I got the 1600 error message with Pwnage 3.1.3 trying to restore with its custom 3.1 iPhone firmware, but with 3.1.5 of Pwnage I was able to jailbreak using a custom restore using 3.1.3 iPhone firmware (even though I started with iPhone 3.1 firmware). Thanks for your help, couldn't have done it without you!
If you got a ipod 3.1.3 don't use other jailbreak porgrams than the program: Spirit because all the other jailbreak programs don't work with ipod 3.1.3

Hey, ran into this problem myself. Im running itunes on my pc, never had connectivity issues before, but i was stuck with a restore screen and 1601 error in itunes. After 4 hours of wrestling with it, i plugged it into my parents IMac and it restored with no issue. I guess thats a point for Mac. Hope this works for you if nothing else has. TRY OTHER PC's before doing anything drastic.

When you see the screen that says connect to iTunes, and iTunes will say "we have detected an iPhone in recovery mode"....

i kept getting the 1600 error. what i did to fix it was just quit itunes with my iphone still plugged in then reopened it. shift click and it was good to go. just got to mess around with it and find what works. i heard some people just switched the usb port on which their iphone was plugged in to and it worked for them

Hey guys, i had the 1600 error and fixed it by using pwnage tool. When i didn't use pwnage tool and put my phone in DFU, for some strange reason iTunes wouldn't accept the custom firmware. When i put my phone into DFU mode using pwnage tool, it extracted firmware from my phone, and for some odd reason, iTunes then let me add the custom firmware. I recommend you try to use pwnage tool. Btw i use a mac, idk how much this will help windows users..but its worth a shot! Goodluck!

hey guys helpful hint i used program quikfreedom that i used to jailbreak 2.2.1 firmware on my itouch 2g once it was finished i didnt have any more problems so i would use something that has a recovery and a patch like quickfreedom and you wont have any problems

Thanks! I finally got my iPhone 3 g to jailbreak with your link after about 10 times. I was not in DFU MODE correctly and when I was worked great.

i got the 1600 error so i downloaded itunes 9 and i still got it, so i updated my firmware to 3.0 then did it. it seems to be working. it's preparing and i havent gotten the error yet.

dude, correct firmware, tried on 3.0.1, 1604 i think, upgraded to 3.1, 1601. Proper dfu mode, NOT WORKING !

for windows fix: you have to use a program. pm me fr the name. =) the problem is that you have to get awhite screen in dfu mode.

Dude, ... i know how to fic the 1600 error! its actually very simple! :D its only to before jailbreak restore your iphone/ipod and everything but do NOT Sync ur music/ videos/ apps/ pictures or anything before ur jailbreak! do it after the prosess its easy i had the 1600 problem before i tried this! try it out :D

u can not open PwnageTool_3.1.dmg because the ****.DMG just work on MAC! Window can not use this software.

SOLUTION FOR MAC USERS: Move the custom .ispw to the directory UERS/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
Then follow the steps on the other video. Worked for me

i kept getting the 1600 error. what i did to fix it was just quit itunes with my iphone still plugged in then reopened it. shift click and it was good to go. just got to mess around with it and find what works. i heard some people just switched the usb port on which their iphone was plugged in to and it worked for them

It only worked for me by downgrading to a jailbroken 3.0 firmware and then upgrading to the custom firmware..

I have a 3GS iphone with 3.0.1 firmware. The problem that I can't get into the DFU mode !! Can anyone help me ?
I follow the instruction exactly:
1-Hold the power button for 5 sec
2-Power and home button for 10
3-release power button and keep holding the home button for 30 sec.
IT DID NOT get me into the DFU mode, the screen stays black I didn't get to the white screen ???

Hey guys, i had the 1600 error and fixed it by using pwnage tool. When i didn't use pwnage tool and put my phone in DFU, for some strange reason iTunes wouldn't accept the custom firmware. When i put my phone into DFU mode using pwnage tool, it extracted firmware from my phone, and for some odd reason, iTunes then let me add the custom firmware. I recommend you try to use pwnage tool. Btw i use a mac, idk how much this will help windows users..but its worth a shot! Goodluck!

great videos ty. as far as the "just play around with it".... it didnt work out too well for me. so if anybody else is still getting the 1600 errors, go that guys page. the uglyest or whatever. its a few comments below me. it works. atleast i think so. my phone is restoring now.

Now I tried to just restore normally without pressing shift and it give me a 2002 error message and the screen on the phone just shows the usb cable connecting to itunes..... Now I can't even restore phone to original settings or software?!?!?! Please help!
