Hey all, I am posting this because I am getting no response from project direct after repeated attempts. I made the film INTERSECTIONS and can get no answer from the powers that be about why we were disqualified from the contest...We made it on time, and had all the props. I thought we were DQ'd cause of course language but one of the finalists has the exact bad language we used, and then i thought it was the violence in our film but some of the films have brutal violence in theirs...
i submitted a film called "The wedding Tape" im 17yrs. old ive been making film for 5yrs not very long but i have gone to some big film fest. i will just be happy if i get one view i love film!!!! may the best win much love to all u hard working film makers!

Does anybody know anything about the top 10, people have made claims but nobody has really come forward, if the selections have gone out I'm worried some of the best were left out of the loop.
no one noes anything... i like to think ive seen alot of good films, and top 20 is a large enough number to cover most of them: Hangman, Icebreaker, etc. Unfortunatly, no ones got word of anytin...its weird.

last night i discovered this. And im afraid any film without the "partofprojectdirect" link is officially disqualified for violating a rule in ther criteria. For example. In your film, swearing got you disqualified...I think.

My name's Ryan McLelland and I produced the contest entry 'The Girlfriend Experience' with writer/director Jeff Stewart (JOS19804). We tried like to hell to put together an amazing short film about a young woman who finds love in the wrong place and time.
My only problem was you didn't really get the feeling you actually submitted. However, when I did it a second time to be sure, it said "you have already submitted this film". So, you should be good!
yeah i was nervous, I literally submitted my movie with 20 seconds left before it was 11:59. I flipped out when it was like, a confirmation email was sent. I thought i wouldn't have enough time to load it up to submit.
Well, I started uploading at 8:00pm, and it's now 10:51 with no end in sight. You'd think they'd allow some kind of grace period. I would rather plain lose than get cheated out of competing. I'm gonna go get drunk and lament my life.

I was wondering what really is the disqualifying point in the contest along the lines of obscene content. Will certain words get us yanked? Can sex be talked about in anyway? Can we show someone wearing an orange thong in good taste? Or will we be breaking the rules under "obscene". We think the story of our film is good but we really dont know if we will be disqualified by going out of bounds on some parts if it truly is out of bounds.
I'd curious about that too. Very good point. "OBSCENE"???? From what I personally have observed, language (unless it's out right racism with no context?) and subject matter, sexual or not as long as it abides by TOS (no nudity, graphic sex), seems okay. I dunno!
A LOT of director's commentaries implied it's like the MPAA used to be: They'll tell a producer, it's a R, but wouldn't specify why it was an R.
Bitter much? Darren Aronofsky happens to be my favourite director. And rightfully so buddy...
Aronofsky's films are beautiful masterpieces. I've never cried so much when I watched Requiem. The Fountain was beautiful. Pi was intense. And the Wrestler is going to be incredible.
Hey, my advice is to not tell people to watch your film. People get on there and rate them poorly just so your video doesn't look as good. By the way, thanks to all those who rate movies poorly just so your film looks better. (Sarcasm!)

I'm assuming it means the props do not HAVE to be recurring PLOT POINTS vital to the story, maybe just simple set dressing, as long as the viewer can plainly see the props once.
As long as it conforms to the contest rules, any film is acceptable. That said, I'd encourage you to check out last year's winners on the Project Direct channel to get a sense of what really resonated with the YouTube community who, in fact, are the real judges.
I will turn 18 on Dec 23, 2008 after the Dec 14, 2008 deadline for entries can I still enter a submission since the winner will not be announced until Jan 5, 2009?
Hi andrea1223 -- unfortunately, the contest rules stipulate that you must have turned 18 on or before November 16. While you can't officially enter the competition by yourself, I'd encourage you to check out pickletheskater's comment above.
So, let me get this straight. Because I don't turn 18 until November 21st, I can't enter, even though the contest doesn't end till the 17th of December?
Find a partner (18 or older) on the film and credit them as your producer. This makes you 100% eligible.

While we wish we could include residents of all countries in Project: Direct, many countries have different laws about running contests and we werent able to create a contest with rules that are fair and would apply equally for everyone around the world.
Definitely feel free to submit any of your films to the email: filmz at youtube, and we'll consider them for a feature on the site.
I agree with FansFiltration - Shut it down!! I just heard a woman lie about a novel I've been writing on my Myspace Blog - A Blog Novel, I called it, how original - say she was going to lie and say she wrote it so she could get in, when she isn't invited. If it isn't someone who already has been given everything to make a good film then it's some bruiser thieving from somebody honest because she has 'friends' willing to do low-life things to an honest writer like ME.
A contest like this is really appealing but if i were to make a film it'd be on a really shitty camera w/ a lack of budget. Guess i'll have to pull out some old cassavetes films for inspiration. He at least filmed w/ a good camera though. NNOOOOOOOO!
I myself are a huge fan of short-movies, but The Netherlands always seems to be forgotten and can't join the contest.

I was wondering what really is the disqualifying point in the contest along the lines of obscene content. Will certain words get us yanked? Can sex be talked about in anyway? Can we show someone wearing an orange thong in good taste? Or will we be breaking the rules under "obscene". We think the story of our film is good but we really dont know if we will be disqualified by going out of bounds on some parts if it truly is out of bounds.

I'd curious about that too. Very good point. "OBSCENE"???? From what I personally have observed, language (unless it's out right racism with no context?) and subject matter, sexual or not as long as it abides by TOS (no nudity, graphic sex), seems okay. I dunno!
A LOT of director's commentaries implied it's like the MPAA used to be: They'll tell a producer, it's a R, but wouldn't specify why it was an R.

Bitter much? Darren Aronofsky happens to be my favourite director. And rightfully so buddy...
Aronofsky's films are beautiful masterpieces. I've never cried so much when I watched Requiem. The Fountain was beautiful. Pi was intense. And the Wrestler is going to be incredible.

Hey, my advice is to not tell people to watch your film. People get on there and rate them poorly just so your video doesn't look as good. By the way, thanks to all those who rate movies poorly just so your film looks better. (Sarcasm!)

Look under FAQ on the main P:D page, then "Rules" (Nothing much there except don't use this project as a forum to threaten or defame real people; don't be "OBSCENE" (they really don't care about swearing; but no unnecesary racism);
FOLLOW YOU TUBE TOS (no nudity, no copyrighted tv/music or registered logos) & you'll be a-okay.
PG-13 material is definately acceptable.
So, YES, your making a MOVIE, a fictional story. Your imagination is your only limitation on creativity, violent or not

"Prop" a featured item seen on screen during one of those 25 movies.
They already said it doesn't have to be exactly like it (you can even make a phone out of CARDBOARD and paint it red - as long as it looks like a phone).
Our creativity is part of their judging criteria.

I'm assuming it means the props do not HAVE to be recurring PLOT POINTS vital to the story, maybe just simple set dressing, as long as the viewer can plainly see the props once.

As long as it conforms to the contest rules, any film is acceptable. That said, I'd encourage you to check out last year's winners on the Project Direct channel to get a sense of what really resonated with the YouTube community who, in fact, are the real judges.

To all that are under 18, I have you solution.
Find a partner (18 or older) on the film and credit them as your producer. This makes you 100% eligible.
However, DON'T USE YOUR PARENTS OR FAMILY!!!! This will just make you look amateur, and will limit your possibilites of sucess. (trust me, I'm a professional filmmaker and only fifteen. I pull these kinds of stunts all the time.)

I agree with FansFiltration - Shut it down!! I just heard a woman lie about a novel I've been writing on my Myspace Blog - A Blog Novel, I called it, how original - say she was going to lie and say she wrote it so she could get in, when she isn't invited. If it isn't someone who already has been given everything to make a good film then it's some bruiser thieving from somebody honest because she has 'friends' willing to do low-life things to an honest writer like ME.
