  • As a young man Bach walked to Lubeck to hear and learn from Buxtehude. He was supposed to stay one month, instead he stayed four. Buxtehude was by then an old man, but he sure made an impression. There are parts of Bach's early works for organ that remind one of Buxtehude. After he came back to Arndstat he was scolded by the council for the strange harmonies and modulations Bach used on Sunday mornings. Bravo and Amen. The Bach we know would not exist were it not for Buxtehude.
