@MrMachodan True, but I think there's nothing wrong with covering, if you do it right. Everybody does it, in fact I don't know any singer or band that hasn't done covers. Even a formidable band like R.E.M. did covers. Actually I think it's quite logical, too: there's so much good stuff from the 80s and 90s, why invent the wheel again? Find a good song, by all means cover it, just as long as you do it right and respect the song and the original artist. Thanks for your comments! :-))
bob geldof neglected to invite thin lizzy possibly due to phil lynnott's deamons but Midge ure was a former member of thin lizzy knew the way things were internally
@calerbass Well..., I think Bob couldn't invite everybody... So I guess he went for the upcoming guys from Dublin... Maybe they (or one of them) were personal friends ? Thanks for commenting ! Merry X-mas ! :-))
Any idea why bono hummed da da dada dum at the start? It was so larry mullen could pick up on the vocals cos the sound was so up and down that day, U2 were awsome.
@TheANDYFRAME It was Bono himself, he was the only one with a mike at that specific point in time... The others were talking to the technician. Watch carefully and you can see for yourself. Thanks for your reaction ! :-))
:-)) XX, Ax.
This is the first U2 song I ever heard...84 I think. In those days we had shitty cars with good stereo systems...cause we were broke lol. My buddy popped this tape in while we were crusing in the chrysler K car and I became Wide Awake.
@LoneHornToad I can surely imagine that ! :-)) I recognize that bit about the "shitty cars with good stereo systems" very well... I had one of those myself, if I remember correctly it was a rusty and over-aged black Alfa Romeo GTV with something like a 500 Watt soundsystem in it... It ended it's career by breaking in half on the highway, at near 200 kms/hr. ... Sjeez, that really was what one could call a crash-landing ! :-))
Me tragué toda la retransmisión que TVE ofreció ininterrumpidamente en directo del Live Aid. Y fue ver este tema y me volví fanático de U2. Nunca había tenido un flechado musical como este. You Too, Me Too!!!
@antoniopolvazquez OK... I'm sorry, I don't read Spanish but a friend of mine does, so I had your comment translated. I just hope you understand English: thank you for your nice comment ! Same with me, I also had lost track of U2 for some years but when I found this clip back again a couple of months ago, I was sold again, too...! As you said: You Too, Me Too !!! Thanks again, my Spanish friend ! :-))
@eloyz2009 Thanks for your reaction my friend. Unfortunately I don't understand it: I don't read or speak Spanish... But I have deduced from your reaction that you like the clip :-)) Thanks ! :-))
@DanaFritzy how could i not forget this magnificent song. live Aid. which was transmitted at a global scale from MTV. I remember what those days, U2 had already publicized 5 albums: The Unforgettable Fire, Under a Blood Red Sky, War, October and Boy, it was the day in which Bono conquered the world. That day I never left the TV screen. At that time, there was only one musical genre, for me it was rock and roll, the British and the American wave. conquered the world.
i guess you have to divide u2 in 4 parts... the early 80's (Boy-october-war) the late 80's (unforgettable fire, joshua tree rattle and hum), the 90's (achtung baby-zooropa-pop) and 00's, (all that you cant...how to dismantle... and no line on the horizon)
@dieguiringo I think that's a very good analysis... How would you describe "360º" ? Personally I would say: a culmination of 30 years of achievement...? I couldn't find a better description, unfortunately...

This is the U2 pediod that deserves to be listened, besides this song has a real deep background and message which are well reflected in Bono´s perfomance. Like¡
7:18 Bono didn't jumped down just for show, he was frantically saving a girl being crushed in the crowd whom he "dances" with afterwards. That's why he is awesome.
I was there...What a wonderful day was for planet earth. I remember I left Naples (Italy) 2 days before live aid by train.....the night before Live Aid we met Bob Geldof, Paul Young and George Michael in a Pub in London. Great times...Ciao!!
this is a clear way to show that we all need to love one another...I do understand that we all can get mad at each other at one time or another - we can all still chill and love each other after we talk ablout our differences- ALL WE NEED IS LOVE...John Winston Lennon.
@johnnygrulez I can only say that you're very, very right...! I have been trying to practice this for all my life... Thanks very much for your comments ! :-)))
@johnnygrulez Very nice! I have an entire playlist on JWL and was blessed w/my son born JWL's B'day ... 10/9/99. May I ask where you read this particular quote? I can hear him saying it in his cool, calm, thought provoking tone.
@CarynMBurke Sorry for reacting to your message so late: I saw it tonight for the first time ! But what "particular quote" do you mean ? The one about Bono disappearing into the crowd ?? Thanks for reacting ! :-))
@Vaporjams I think you have come very close to the truth... Point is, there are so many fantastic performances of so many fantastic songs that it's very hard to decide which one is the best... This performance surely is the most impressive of them all, especially since they were so brandnew at the game...! :-)) Thanks for your comments !
@KawiKaRs Thanks very much for your reaction and information ! I didn't konw that, about Greg Carroll... "One Tree Hill" is a superb song, and one of my all-time favourites ! :-)) Thanks again !

Back to U2: I don't understand: the video itself states "YouTube HD", down-right in the corner (when you play it at 720p... I suppose Popmartour upscaled it to HD himself then ? Don't know, never asked...
