Horrible tutorial. It doesn't in the least help me set up a basic website as a first time drupal user. Drupaldude forgets that it's very confusing for a first time user to distinguish between the administration part and the actual website-part of a website. In a tutorial I don't want to be impressed with your so-called cool Google maps intergration, rather show me basic stuff. I like to learn when watching a tutorial, not stand in awe of some advanced stuff that should be covered in chapter 10.

One thing I find to be careful of is one module depends on another and another and another - so you end up being pulled in and before you know it one month later - you are behind on a simple task that you though would be a days work.... This could be part of the intricate marketing mechanism to distribute the software virally...

His understanding of 'pages' and 'stories' are well off. They are two different, yet similar, content types. There is no implied inheritence. It's not so that you can have a story within a page either - although this is actually possible.

I have grasped it, where I work we sometimes use it, it is not easy to use (read what Dries (its ceator) says on his blog when they did usability testing),.

It is more powerful than Wordpress, as a couple o fthings better than Joomla (better ACL, better caching), but overall I prefer frameworks (RoR, Django, Codeigniter, Symfony, etc) which are all far more powerful, more flexiable, more scalable and generally less painful to use.

@1point61803 Tough question. Depends on somany variables and whatever we suggest will most likely be inaccurate for your use case.

What you should do is spend some time reading into all three and and see what best fits your needs based on the website requirements, your developement experience and skills. They all have a good strong community to give you helop and support. You might even learn that you don't need a cms altogether. Hope this helps and Good luck.

If you are seriously thinking on using Drupal for your website, let me suggest you not doing so.

If you are think about designing a small website, maybe personal, or for a small business (small nothing big) maybe then give it a try.

But in case you are interested on something bigger, like a community site or a big business official website forget it, just go and look for another CMS.

This is not safe at all, the community forums require months to answer you and modules are full of bugs.

joomla all the way, anything but Drupal. Even the name, Drupal, is ridiculous.

Most modules in Drupal are abandoned and full of bugs since many of them have been developed by rookies.

I´ve been working for months with Drupal projects and most modules (and Drupal itself) don´t give you what they promise. The only way to make a Drupal website work properly is to be a good PHP programmer and make your own changes, but in such a case the best thing to do is design your own website from scratch.

I've build several massive websites and I can 100% say that drupal is waaaaaaay better than a big fat over-rated CMS like Joomla!

Bugs? Every piece of engineered software has bugs...But some have more than other and I can tell you that Drupal is WAY more robust than Joomla... btw is 'Joomla' a good name???
