I think this is a great book.  It doesn't follow the traditional structure of a novel, though. It's more like a collection of very poetic vignettes. I think that's what some people here don't like about it. As she says in the video on writing, she was experimenting with genre.

i had to read this for summer reading and i found it so annoying that dialouge wasn't in quotation marks and then i figrueed out that it was written kind of like a diary alsmot so that helped me a little
