Merritt sited Les Rita Mitsouko - Marcia Baila as his favorite song of 1985 in a review he did (which you can find by googling: stephin merritt favorite song or recording from each year of the 20th century). watch the video and hear the similarity. that's all I'm saying. I'm not hating. He's my favorite song writer actually. would have included the links but youtube wont let me: boooooo hooooo
Stephen explained that this album was recorded at very low volume. They used many tiny battery powered amps the size of cigarette packs with 1 inch speakers to get the distortion at really low volume. Since Merritt, with his ear condition, can't endure any loud volume, the MFs always play acoustically when they perform live, but in the studio they can get that great roaring distortion (eg 'Yeah, Oh Yeah') without having to crank up the volume. Pretty brilliant, I think.
Merritt has an auditory condition that causes him to hear above-average volume in feedback. The band takes inspiration from this and has their music mixed to be "distorted" and strange. If you don't like it... don't listen to it. It's your loss.
why do i love this song? this track isnt like any other i have on my ipod, yet i think it's ambient, groovy, and the distortedness reminds me of bloody valentine. it feels very vintage. i adore it.
I agree, but I think he meant the audio itself, that has a los of "distortion". I think that´s on porpuse, not what the purpose is.... but yeah, it is on porpuse.
all the songs in this cd have the same weird sounds inside.
damn! you should have read about this album first: distortion is fully inspired on The Jesus & Mary Chain's Psychocandy. then it was intentionally recorded and filled with this fine noise all over the album. nice record!! :D
