  • Someone responded to my comment on this video by saying that he also set the all time walks record. My response to that is this. Ryan played in the majors for 27 seasons. So I guess just by tenure he has the most walks. Such as Cy Young won the most games of all time but he also lost the most games of all time. More important in these instances is the ratios. I don't know what Ryans strikeout to walks ratio is so if anyone knows please clue me in.

  • Although I didn't keep up with Ryan during his career, as a sports fan it strikes me as possibly the greatest injustice in sports when he is not even mentioned when these so called "experts" discuss the greatest athletes ever. Do they realize that there are only 3 records in sports that will never be broken and he has two of them, most strikeouts and7 no-hitters (which has got to be the most amazing accomplishment in sports ever) the 3rd record being Youngs wins.

  • Cmon man, I wanted to see the actual VCRed footage, whoever has it email it to me so I can jerk off to it, hahahaha, im just messin.... Or am I. Send me footage!!!!

  • *the

  • rickey henderson was nolans 5,000th strike out,the next day rickey wore a t-shirt that read "nolan ryans 5,000th strike out,i was there" don't forget nolan ryan threw 10 one hitters in his career,17 games of one or none

  • The song playing is quite possibly the worst cover I've ever heard of anything..... I couldn't even pay attention to the video, the song sucked so much ass....

  • You idiot, he defiantly did mention it.

  • You fogot to mention Nolan Ryan's highest accomplishment, which was his 7 no hitters. Still holds after almost 20 years since retiring.

  • @voirdire He did mention it, dipshit

  • BTW he is not one of the greatest pitchers he is the greatest. Most of his records will never be broken. His 383 seasonal strikeouts and 5714 career to name 2

  • @CountrySingerWannabe dont forget about all time walks too

  • you did not just put a slide presentation on youtube, did you? There is a new technology it is called video.

  • @erniecolie MlB has the rights to almost every baseball video. You cant copy them from mlb.com or anything.

  • @lincecumfreak55...true Ryan was a man not a coward .... He went after Ventura because the time before when a batter charged him he backed off and ended up on the bad side of a brawl... He made sure not to let that happen again....

  • @fleetfox84 haha , iv brushed back batters in my legue. but all we do is stare at each other.

  • Why name an award after Cy Young when you can name an award after Nolan Ryan.

  • My favorite pitcher ever, especially since he was on the ANGELS

  • he is not a sissy for sure. my favorite pitcher of all time! Not because he pitched good , but because he was a man!

  • @secretariat950.... I love Ryan all I'm saying is this was all about the unwritten rules of baseball... Ventura didn't want to charge....only did late because of a team agreement that the first to get hit by Ryan(and it was bound to happen) would charge....

  • Ryan is one of the last pitchers to brushback guys...wonder where the game would be if guys still played by old school rules....

  • I miss watching Nolan Ryan pitch on a regular basis. I'll never forget his 7th no hitter.

  • @secretarir950....i love Ryan....I'm just saying in regards to Ventura.... Not a fair fight.... Ventura only charged because of a team agreement that the first to get hit woululd charge the mound....he didn't want to...and was an all star too....I just state the facts

  • Sounds to me like you just did "knock" him. I hope he doesn't hear about that comment, for your sake.

  • I'm not tying to knock one of the best pitchers in baseball... But Ventura didn't want to rush the mound... He only did it because the players agreed that the first to get hit "and it would happen with Ryan" would charge....to send message....turns out an all-star is only known for the "atomic noogie"!

  • shitty video

  • WAS all time strikeout leader? he IS the all time strikeout champ

  • It's not about who was a better pitcher...it is about who scared batters and Ryan scared batters or pissed them off enough to cause a guy to charge the mound only because his team was tired of being brushed back by an old school pitcher...who lasted longer than most pitchers....

  • I bought my asshole exboyfriend junkie dog thief, Mark, an autographed pic from Nolan Ryan; I'd have much preferred to shove my own foot in his ass than send a picture of someone he can't afford to have lunch with. I should've known 20 yrs ago: Dodgers fans are generally lacking intellect or even working knowledge. Most are short bus windowlickers who don't even deserve my typestroke, so

  • How many one-hitters and of those how many lost in the ninth? I saw him as a kid at the "Big" A, when the Angels were normally 35 games behind. Still a class act and a baseball legend. I can't forget those days.

  • your a idiot all yhe main writers put seaver above but in essance ryan is he playe on bad teams an the only stat that matters is oppp bat. ave THAT WHAT YOUR GUY HITS AGAINST MY GUY which is ryan idiot HE GAVE UP 172 AVE IN EARLY 70S AND 173 AT 43 IN THE 90S AND IS THE ALL TIME LEADER which means in 4 decades no pitched better than the remarkable steroid use nolan ryan ni joke ryan is the best steroid no steroid the best

  • Mother Creator

    ~~ Loves You ~~

  • That shit was gay

  • Tom Seaver was one of the Best pitchers ever as well as Ryan, but as much as you want to go through the stats and Nitpick you have to Factor in that Nolan Ryan played most of his career in the American League where the hitting is usually always better. Does Seaver get a pass for pitching to a pitcher? Nolan Ryan had to pitch to 9 Hitters a night ,not 8 and a pitcher. Seaver was better because he had a bigger arsenal of pitches than Ryan, that does show in the ERA, but don't discount those No-No

  • I wouldn include over 5000 strikeouts anywhere in this video that's not important!

  • I just realized that Roy Oswalt has the EXACT same windup as Nolan Ryan!!!!!

  • Shitty version of this song.

  • he never won a cy young award :/

  • Top 5 pitchers of the last 50 years

    1.Mariano River

    2.Pedro Martinez

    3.Nolan Ryan

    4.Bob Gibson

    5.Sandy Koufax

  • @tatertots00 Not Roy Halladay?! 2 no hitters in 1 season and the 2nd EVER in the postseason?!

  • @WorldTradeCenter2011 Halladay is top 10-15

  • @tatertots00 Pedro Martinez isn't even top 50 in anyone's book

  • @tatertots00 Different eras are hard to compare, but to include Ryan and not Tom Seaver is a joke. They both had teams that overall combined for about a .500 record. Seaver had a .603 winning % and a 2.86 ERA to Ryan's .529 % and 3.19 ERA. If you wanted to see a game with a lot of strikeouts and walks, Ryan was your guy. But for a dependable ace when you needed a win, it's Seaver all the way.

  • @modeo92 Winning is all relative. Seaver played on far better teams fielding and he got better run surport.

  • @tatertots00 What's your excuse for Ryan holding the record for walks (by 50%!! over the next guy, Carlton) and averaging 120 walks per season to Seaver's 73? The umpires called a tighter pitcher zone for Ryan? What's your excuse for Ryan holding the record for wild pitches and averaging 12 wild pitches a season to Seaver's 7? Seaver's catchers were much better? What's your excuse for Ryan having an awful fielding % of .895 to Seaver's .960? Ryan's official scorers were tougher?

  • @modeo92 Nolan had a different style more walks more strikeouts. What is your excuse for Nolan's 7 no hitters and 12 "1 hitters"?

I will say Nolan was a terrible fielder but it never mattered that much because with Nolan you rarely got any grounders

  • @tatertots00 Yes, it's called being wild. 7 no-hitters and 12 1 hitters are spectacular and exciting, but in the end they are 19 wins. Nothing more. My point is that Ryan was rarely the best starting pitcher on his own team regardless of how many no-hitters and 1 hitters he had. You can't use the "team" excuse when that happens. Ryan has to take the blame when that happens. He's a deserved Hall of Famer since there are over 20 pitchers enshrined. But up near the top? No way.

  • @modeo92 It's interesting that if you do a search for "nolan ryan overrated" you'll get tons of sites saying that Nolan Ryan is overrated. If you do a search for "tom seaver overrated" you'll get tons of sites saying that Nolan Ryan is overrated.

Good to see there are a lot of people out there who know baseball.

  • @collins444 I agree. Seaver is so much better it's not even comparable. But you never see him getting called the best. Good thing nobody find him overrated either because that would be ridiculous.

  • @tatertots00 Ryan's fanboys love blame his teams for everything. Somehow though, Tom Seaver, Frank Tanana (for the Angels), Mike Scott (for the Astros) all had better winning %'s and ERAs on the same teams at the same time as Ryan. How do you explain that? The problem is Ryan himself. Yes, he struck out an amazing # of batters and his longevity was incredible. But he did all the little things horribly. And that is why his winning % is .529 and not anywhere near Seaver's .603.

  • Comment removed

  • @collins444 he has the record for no hitters you can hardly call him overrated.

  • God do you think you're a professional baseball analyst or something? You are posting of a damn youtube video about someone who retired in the mid-90s just trying to stir up crap and prove to yourself that you "know baseball"...

  • Comment removed

  • @tanerscotlynd I suppose "or something." I haven't followed baseball closely since I was a kid. I do watch the playoffs. Congrats to the Nolan-owned Rangers. I just find Nolan to be very overrated (yet fascinating) and if there ever was a guy with lots of stats to argue over, it's him. Given all the arguments all over the internet about him, I'm not alone. The problem is finding current arguments and youtube answers that need.

  • @collins444 Once again, proving how stupid you are. Nolan was the ace, so of course he was always pitted against the teams throughout the schedule with the most threatening offense. What does Tom Seaver have to do with Nolan other than time at New York? Franks W/L record and ERA is WORSE than Nolan's.

  • Comment removed

  • @tanerscotlynd Have ever heard of a series? The top 2 guys pitch to the same teams. And Ryan, usually being #2, would face the same guys as the #1 starter. Tom Seaver has a lot to do with things if you're calling Ryan the best. Because Seaver was far better. Their teams combined around .500 and Seaver had a .603 win % and Ryan had a .526 win %.Tanana's w/l and ERA was better than Ryan's when they PLAYED TOGETHER on the same team (the "team" excuse). The same with Mike Scott on the Astros.

  • @@collins444 You are a rambling idiot. Nolan Ryan was an 8 time all star who threw over 5,000 strike outs (most in history) with a career ERA around 3.00...That is quality consistency. He threw 7 no hitters (also most in history) and won a WS. His W/L record is only so low because he played for teams with no offense, because he was also LOYAL (rare in MLB history).

You are a moron, Nolan Ryan IS FACTUALLY the best pitcher of all time.

  • @tanerscotlynd If you've got some time to kill, do a search for "nolan ryan overrated." That'll keep you busy for days reading people who know baseball. Seaver, Tanana and Scott had better win/loss % and ERAs on the same teams so the excuse that it was the teams he played on is garbage. If you want to see true greatness, look at Seaver's career. And last time I checked, strikeouts count as one out and nono's count as one win.

  • If by "One of the Greatest" Matt Peck means "One of the Top 25" then yes, he is correct.

  • I'll make it to the point.

    Ryan.Most.Overrated.Pitcher.Ever.

  • Nolan Ryan= Greatest Pitcher of All-Time

  • @nparga23 I love Ryan fanboys. When they can't accept that Ryan wasn't even the best pitcher on his own teams, they start with the insults.

    I know the truth hurts.

  • @collins444 = LMFAO...you insecure virgin

have a tranny pop your small cherry, faggot

that my virgin loser is the truth

  • @nparga23 The truth is that Nolan Ryan is the most overrated pitcher of all-time.

50% more walks than the 2nd place guy, Steve Carlton. 2795 to 1833 in total. 120 per season to Carlton's 86. It's hard to even grasp how incredibly horrible that is.

nparga23, you have better control of your bowels than Ryan did of his pitches. Ok, maybe it's a tie.

  • @collins444 nice term paper you rambling virgin old man

you better go stick your virgin dick inside Rogeroids before he goes to prison, fucking idiot

  • Comment removed

  • ryan sucks rod. him and his buddy bush, dubya.

now go kill yourself as well by fucking a tranny with AIDS

LMFAO at these youtube virgin libtard trolls

  • @mcdebi is that even possible?

  • Yay, it's Nolan Ryan!! The most overrated pitcher of all-time!!

  • @collins444 & no-hitters? has the most strike outs ever? could throw consist 100 mph fastballs even when he was in his 40's? yeah hes totally overrated

  • @fire798531 He's overrated by people who think he's the greatest of all time or even in the top ten. Games are decided by runs; not strikeouts. No hitters are great but the goal of a pitcher should be to win consistently and there were many better than Ryan. People blame his teams but he was the best pitcher on his team only for 7 or 8 seasons out of 27. Tom Seaver, Frank Tanana and Mike Scott had better win %'s and ERAs when they played with Ryan. You want me to go on? Want to hear about walks?

  • @collins444 dude, go get a life you fucking virgin hater...

why the venom on Ryan dickhead? maybe because you're a jealous know-nothing old man virgin living in your mom's basement

get a 44 Magnum and blow your brainless head to hell

  • @zacapa813 Thank you. I love Ryan fanboys.

Sucks that your guy is so overrated. I mean Frank Tanana was a better pitcher than him when they played together. That's gotta hurt.

  • i was named after nolan ryan...im glad they didnt give me his first name too (Lynn)

  • @rawrza5 dude me too!

im named after him and my dad wanted to name me lynn but my mom said no xD

  • Lame! No actual video of him pitching. Check out Sandy Koufax, his mentor. 4 no hitters in 4 straight years. Amazing at only 5'10".

  • Alvin,Texas. Represent!!!!

  • I don't care what anyone says.

Nolan Ryan is, was and always will be THE most/best kickass pitcher in the world

  • @toajaller559 YES! HE IS A KICKASS PITCHER!! THE BEST!

  • jdlund...doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground regarding politics....he should just stick to drinking near beer and throwing popcorn at his dumb trash buddies in the cheap seats...what a clown

  • @whothehellgivesadamn and you do? I think not. You're just a lame troll. I mean, you're from California, where all the garbage is at. Damn, aren't you late for a plastic surgery appointment or something?

  • He was such an amazing pitcher. He didn't have wide range of pitches but what he did, he did amazingly well. I even have enough respect for him that I could overlook his support for Ron Paul. Ron Paul is an ass hat. But still I gotta respect Nolan.

  • A true baseball fireballer.

No he's not the best pitcher ever.

He's the best fire-balling strikeout master who could take a game over.

    Leave it at that.

  • bchiiles you dummy: i was sayting that nolan ryan was the best work horse and koufax was the greatest pitching artist, if you knew anything about pitching or baseball you would understand what im talking about, and i also mentioned that nolan ryan had the extrodinairy character to support ron paul which is huge...anyway bch at least youre not a full blown troll like nparga23, you're just dumb...however youtube being what it is you could morph into a troll like nparga, etc.

  • Uh.... Just a thought. Why dont we keep the comments here about Nolan Ryan. the greatest pitcher to ever play the great game of baseball. Who care where anyone here stands on politics. go to the Bush or Obama bashing videos for that crap.

  • attention fans............nparga may now be posing as ronald regan....you will however notice him by the smell of his diapers which have not been changed for maybe 5 to 6 weeks now....he's basically an idiot, who is so dumb he thinks he's clever....or shall i say he stinks he's clever...what a shame that this piece of garbage would show up on a page featuring the great Nolan Ryan, a man who supports Ron Paul who is a real conservative far beyond whatever Regan had in mind,.nparga23 sucks diapers

  • attention fans..........attention fans....we may have reason to belive that nparga23 and the richardbabychenyidiot....may be the same idiot posing as two different idiots...sort of two idiots in one....if you locate either one...please notify the authorities....thank you and have a nice day....unless you happen to be one of those idiots....

  • stay off the computer baby cheney, the internet is no place for dysfunctional 4 year olds, and ask your parents to change your diapers, they probably havent been changed for weeks........

  • notice how the nparga23 piece of crap runs and hides as he shivers in fear...I happen to be a gentelman like nolan and sandy, it comes with the territory..nparga23's comments are utterly worthless dribble..comming most likely from what sounds like a cockey shutin...anyway they don't makem like sandy and nolan and me anymore....but unfortunately we have a massvie oversupply of the nparga23 type scumbags....evolution and devolution..and perhaps the eve of destruction...

  • you're a fucking virgin clown ass got pwned by some kid

  • go see a shrink you psycho Commie virgin

  • some clown clods are disputing my comment, I happen to be a great pitcher on the ryan koufax level and any piece of garbage that doesn't appreciate my comment deserves a nice slider to the head..oh yea like i'll bet the nparga piece of garbage is a real athlete, he's probably a shut in....

  • whothehellgivesadamnVIRGIN , I am a black belt martial artist

I can easily put you in the grave but you're a virgin troller so I;d give a cherry faggot a break

don't mess with me or else

  • Nolan Ryan the best Power Pitcher of the last 40 Years.

  • nolan was a great guy no question, but koufax was the best no close seconds, not even ryan in terms of pure art...

  • you're a fucking moron

Koufax had a gale Sayers like career

plus Koufax is a GAY JEW

  • fool

  • what's a no-hitter is it some1 who hasn't hit an entire season?

  • He was a very good pitcher. For his career his Runs Allowed was 0.5 below the average if you calculate the Runs allowed for the years he pitched in the AL and NL. He was very hard to hit and gave up very few homers and of course struck out all those batters. Negatives: Walks about 4.5 for career Wild Pitches had a very low fielding percentage as made I think more errors then anyone else and also was very easy to run on. In the end he was about a half a run better then average for long career.

  • come on...nolan is a total badass that's for sure, but best pitcher ever? there are at least 5-10 i could come up with...his career win % at .526 is downright average (that's esteban loaiza territory) and he walked the most batters in history, and it's not even close (2795 to 1833)

  • one of, nolan ryan is the greatest pitcher ever, and what is with this version of this song. it is a total abomination of this amazing song. should have used the original by queen. would make for a much better video.

  • my brothers name is ryan and mine is nolan haha

  • I remember when he pitched for the California Angels. He had a cannon for an arm. His mechanics were textbook.

  • Nice !

  • Right on!

I'm a White Sox fan, but I still laugh every time I think about him and Robin Ventura.

    Awesome video.

  • i was named after him

  • Simply put, 'the best.' Mr. Ryan has been my favorite ball player since before I understood what a change-up is. Top ten list of people I'd like to meet. God bless and thanks for the memories!

  • You forgot the 5,714 strikeouts

  • Yeah, Ryan threw 7 no-nos, but "none" were perfect games! Koufax threw 4 no-nos, & 2 of them were perfectos!! That's quite a feat! You watch......Mark Buehrle will probably throw at least another no-no, or 2 before he retires, I believe he will break Koufax's "perfect game" record in this catagory!

  • fucking idiot

  • NOBODY was greater than Koufax!

  • two perfect games really? better check your facts

  • he threw 1 perfect game u idiot. no one in Major league history has thrown multiple perfect games

  • ryan was clocked at 100.9

if he had juiced like today pitchers, he would have thrown 107 ish...

  • Come on, Koufax pitched for seven years and blew out his arm. Nolan Ryan was throwing in the mid-90's at age forty.

  • He could still throw 100 past the age of forty.

  • 100.9 is the fastest he threw. No one has thrown 106 in the MLB.

  • think the highest is 103 by joel zumaya. im not sure about that because the guns are messed up.

  • no bob feller was recorded at 98.6 at the PLATE. nowadays when they record its with guns out of the hand so he actually threw around 105 - 110

  • dont think so.......

  • I though that he threw a 104 mph fastball

  • his fastest pitch was really 106 mph

  • A great pitcher, but not as good as Koufax.

  • 7 no hitters..... how can u say somebody else is better than him...... has anybody else have more no no's in a carreer than him

  • Had Sandy Koufax not retired early, he could have thrown some more no nos...

  • steves better

  • Nolan Ryan is STILL the all time Strikeout leader.

  • RYANS THE BEST

  • Walter Johnson was the greatest pitcher of all time and if he wasnt playing for horrible senators team he would probably be the alltime leader in wins but Nolan Ryan is the best strikeout pitcher of all time and my personal favorite because of how humble he was

  • The Ryan Express RULED

  • Greg is better

  • song doesnt fit

  • he could throw 100.9 m/hr

  • "I'm a believer that when you make a commitment, you make a commitment.

And that's what marriage is. It's just like a contract. I believe you're only as good as your word. If people can't trust you, what have you got? . . .

When you have kids, you're making a commitment there, too.

You have an obligation to give them the best foundation you can give them so that they can go out in the world fully prepared."- NOLAN RYAN

  • One last question Eric, and I doubt I'll get any real answer, since I should have known that discussing this topic on a message board would be futile, but what stats do you rank highly when determining a pitcher's dominance over batters or his overall value?

You've said over and over that groundball pitchers give up more hits and fewer strikeouts, but what stats do you use to place value on Maddux over Ryan? Because I can't see any stats to prove him better.

  • BPalmer101, Hahahahaha.... someone is claiming that Maddux was/is a better overall pitcher than Nolan Ryan??? That is HILARIOUS!!!

  • Yeah, EricAnno was trying to say he was. I showed him tons of data proving Nolan better. In my last post, I just tried to get him to tell me what stat he would use to rank how good a pitcher is, but he hasn't responded in over two weeks.

I kinda figured it was going to be like that.

  • Do you understand what I'm talking about here Eric? You haven't shown or presented any stats to prove Maddux as a better pitcher.

Than you say that k's aren't overrated, but the pitcher pitching them could be (Ryan). I could maybe understand if he had the same amount of k's but his ERA was over 5 and he gave up tons of hits.

But he hasn't, all his numbers are good-amazing, his hits per 9IP is the lowest in MLB history. It doesn't matter if he was a velocity pitcher, he got it done.

  • "I said that you can't wanting to use K's as a way of saying that Ryan was better than Maddux"

I used 2 k related stats, and then 4 other non-k related stats, yet you say I'm only using k stats.

"Groundball pitchers give up more hits and don't strike out 220 batters a season."

I haven't refuted that, but you haven't shown how Maddux who's given up far more hits, has fewer k's, averages more hits per 9IP, has a higher OBA, and an identical ERA to Ryan is any better.

  • Eric, I have never ignored the fact that Maddux was a groundball pitcher. Ever. You've continued to repeat the fact, I've simply said that is was a style, and that a pitcher's style doesn't determine how good a pitcher is.

"I took away the two extremely overrated stats, K's and no-hitters."

"K's aren't overrated by any means, but the pitcher that's throwing a lot of them may be."

Now you're contradicting yourself, and you still haven't given any stat proving Maddux better.

  • if he played for the yankees he would be known as the best ever ........oh yeah his records are untouchable.

  • You have ignored every stat I've given you but choose to focus on the time period in which Maddux pitched.

Did Nolan Ryan not pitch in the 80's and early 90's? Were Maguire, Bonds, Canseco, Palmeiro and Sosa not playing at those times? Give me a break.

All you've said about Maddux being better is that he played in a hitter's ball park during the steroids era. Ryan faced several of these same roid abusers in a good chunk of the same era. That proves nothing.

  • EricAnno, you have failed to give one specific statistic that proves Maddux to be a better pitcher than Ryan.

You continually say he was a groundball pitcher. I understand that. That is a style of pitching. Ryan was a power pitcher, that's also a style, not a statistic. Maddux relied on control, Ryan relied on velocity.

One's style does not make one a better pitcher. If you have a preference for groundball pitchers that's one thing, but simply saying it doesn't make him better.
