Takes me back to the 90's when everyone was a Michael Jordan fan. It didn't matter if he beat your team, you knew you were watching the greatest Basketball player of all time!
I hope when the NBA's TV contract ends, that NBC makes a real push to get the NBA back!... I HATE the NBA on ABC/ESPN!... They do such a horrible job covering the games including the playoffs and Finals. The commentators are really bad. Mike Tirico and Hubie Brown are boring, and Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy are the worst!... Loved the NBA on NBC, with Bob Costas doing the pre-game show, and Marv Albert with Bill Walton and Steve "Snapper" Jones... It was really entertaining back then,
Can't wait to hear this song this summer when the dream team goes to London and beats the snot, piss, brakes, tar , and shit out of the rest of the world.
@HailDaFins LOL. i have that game in its entirety on my comp. Maybe Ill upload it. Actually i have over 150 full playoff games from the 90's (most from nbc) on my comp.
Nothing else needs to be said about this theme. It WAS the period when the NBA actually had a good strong field of playoff contenders. Bulls, Lakers, Celtics, Blazers, Sonics, and even the Knicks.
NBC is home of the repeating champions except one team: Bulls 1991-93, Rockets 1994-95; Bulls 1996-98; Spurs 1999 (the only single champion); Lakers 2000-02
@Trillaman11 I agree them days are so long aleast T.N.T still got cause the n.b.a would stink if espn/abc carry it, don't get me wrong they do a great job in the pass when it only came on espn not abc.
@UDflyer04 not only jordan wakes up to this he takes shower to this eat with this have sex to this drive to this run to this and play ball to,this awesome theme even chunk norris approved this theme with a roundhouse kick.
Michael Jordan, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Gary Payton...where have you gone? Come back, the NBA is full of tools now...
Ahhhh hearing this brings back memories of the good old days.....Jordan/Pippen, Shaq & Penny/Reg/Ewing/Payton & Kemp/Grandmama (Larry Johnson) and Zo/Barkley/Grant Hill/Olajuwon man I could go on and on about those days. Bring back the NBA on NBC and the theme song too......
With Comcast acquiring a majority stake in NBC [space removed] Universal and its CSN channels gradually adopting NBC-style graphics, perhaps Roundball Rock might be heard on CSN? Not exactly the same, but at least you get to hear it again after 10 years of absence. Just a thought.
@vnyc82 Last absolute hated rivalry I remember was watching the Kings vs. Lakers at Arco in 2002. Haven't seen one that quite lived up to that since then.
@ttow1944 At 1:51, will there also be outdoor shots of the funeral parlor, followed by a wide shot of the funeral crowd and then individual audience members with signs? LOL!!
You can always say there is an opposing opinion, but this is one of those cases I feel I can safely say, this is the best sports theme song of all time.
@homeboi12 hello everybody im marv albert joined by the czar mike fratello and mike this series should be a tough series for both teams. I agree with you marv 100 percent both teams are looking strong and ready to go tonight. we'll be right back to the 1994 NBA Finals right after a word from our sponsors.
Oh this brings back so many memories! Granted as a Knicks fan not all of them were happy, but hey the Knicks-Bull/Heat/Pacers games of the 90s were EPIC! Every time this music came on I dropped whatever I was doing and ran to my living room for the NBA. It was truly an event in my household. The games, the music, the commentary... sorry ABC/ESPN can't hold a candle to this.

@oamad0101 A friend of mine who met his wife workin at the NBA offices in Jersey were introduced at the reception to this.....so yes it has been done!! LOL
Watching the NBA on NBC and hearing that tune is something huge that I remember from my childhood. It was the quintessential sports theme from 1990-2002, defining moments such as Jordan's championships and jaw-dropping moves through health and sickness, Reggie Miller scoring last second jumpers during a heated feud with both the New York Knicks and Spike Lee, breaking the New York Knicks' hearts at the Garden several times in the 90s, and the Lakers coming in game 7 of the 2000 Western Finals.
I only started watching the NBA on NBC in 1998, near its end, and also when I was just 6 years old. But even I like the theme! I think this just goes to show you that this theme song is so great that even people who haven't heard of it for very long (like me) or even at all would prefer this theme song over the current ESPN/ABC theme for NBA coverage.
Reminds me of kobe bryant air ballin as a rookie, how far we have came, now hes the most deadliest shooter in the gave. Love u kobe, and the greatest dynasty ever, the Los Angeles Lakers!
@bravesballa21 Nelly didn't "steal" the beat for Heart of a Champion. He paid a fee to sample the song. It's like people that say wrestling is "fake". It's not "fake"... it's choreographed.
@phelpstherapper, choreographing a sports event is about as good as faking it. Sport is suppossed to be unpredictable; that's why we watch, to see what will happen. If I knew the Red Sox, for example, were absolutely guaranteed to win the World Series, why would I watch the regular season? I might watch the World Series to experience the moment, but the rest would be irrelevant.
