Thank you SO MUCH for this. I was trying to figure out how to make one of these. The tip about the cardboard for the beak is AMAZING! If I may ask, what did you use to make the newspaper stick?
@OokamiCashaII paper mache. so a mix of corn starch and water, dip the paper in it, and when the corn starch dehydrates it gets rigid. just google paper mache =)

@xpiledux They put potently aromatic herbs in the beak to protect them from the putrid smell that they thought was the plague. They didn't piss in it.
@xpiledux Piss covered towels were used in WW1 by soldiers during early live field mustard gas tests by German soldiers on Canadian soldiers. The ammonia in urine neutralized the gas allowing soldiers to charge through it and get the upper hand on the Germans. The beak of a plague doctor's mask was used to hold aromatic substances like perfumes, oils and flowers to fight the bubonic plague because they believed in a miasma-tic theory that the plague was caused by 'bad air'.

@xpiledux Do you have a source? I've been studying the practices of plague doctors for months now, and I've never heard of such a thing.
