Most people don't realize that crows are one of the most intelligent birds in the world (think of what we know about grey parrots intelligence for a comparison)
Crows are very intelligent. They are much better at recognizing people than people are at recognizing Crows. It's probably an adaptation to better identify threats in the wild.
When researchers who studied a Murder for a while put on paper masks of each other, upside down, the crows craned their necks and swooped upside down in flight to figure out which 'person' they were dealing with. The crows reacted differently to each image (person) after recognizing the face.
I used to put food out for the birds and animals at my parents. I decided to put out some left over sushi and some meat for the crows that would pass through so it wouldn't go to waste. One came and brought it to the bird bath where he put it in the water and dunked it around before eating it. Not sure what that was about. I also put a mouse(cute off-white mouse with a big tan cow pattern) that I found dead in the house outside for the crows or other animals.
They landed in the tree over the garden and they sat silently for an hour after he had passed on. The immediate family stayed until dark, after which, my husband snuck out and buried him ..., below the fence and in the flower bed, where he had first come to beg for food, so many years before.
Crows also have funerals, and they mourn their lost ones in a most amazing spectacle of events. My favorite old crow came to our backyard to die last Fall. It was one of the saddest days of my life, and it was something that most humans will never see. I stood and mourned with them ..., and they allowed me the honor of being there. The second that my old crow put his right wing to the sky to wave good-bye, crows came flying for as far as the eye could see.
Somebody mentioned below the, "enchanting rattle call", and indeed, it is just that! (: I wish that I could figure that one out! The babies seem to do it alot. If you ever watch, they have to swallow a lot of air in order to get that little rattle out. They swoop their little heads way down, and then up again, as if to be swallowing pillows of air.
In order to watch their behavior, I've been feeding crows for years. I've witnessed the female come down ..., examine the food ..., somehow telling her mate if it was accceptable or not, then watched as he came down, gathered it up and fed it to her on a nearby wire. They're amazing!
I adore listening to them when they chatter like this ..., it's so cute and sweet. I've been studying crow behavior for years, and I've even had them talk to me like what you hear in this video. Crows have many, many different forms of vocalization, some we're familiar with but most we aren't.
These are crows and not ravens, you can easily tell by the tail feathers and the shape of their heads. Crows sound differently in every different area of the country. They don't all sound alike, and what's interesting is, they can't all understand each other. This appears to be an adult crow feeding a begging infant. It could also be a female begging for a male to feed it, which is common practice during breeding season.
The raven is at the top of the corvid type, being the biggest, smartest, and most complex in its behavior. Crows are somewhat below ravens in these categories. So you may say that crows are ravens, but never say ravens are crows! Especially don't compare them with parrots... :)

Not only can Parakeets, Parrots and Budgies talk, Ravens, Crows, and Starlings can too.

Crows can make a lot of strange small talk like this. They also make a rattle call that is very enchanting.
