Jerome translated the ancient Hebrew of the old testament into Latin (which didn't exist when the OT was written). Isaiah14:12 is where this error occurs. In the original Hebrew it tells of a king who fell from grace for persecuting Israelites. The King was referred to as "son of the morning", the name Lucifer was used because to the Romans it referred to Venus (the morning star) and the moniker fit the king who's garb was bright and flashy. There was actually no mention of Satan at all.

Jerome had mistranslated the Hebraic metaphor, "Day star, son of the Dawn," as "Lucifer," Ever since, this term has slowly morphed into a vulgar belief that this was the true name of Satan, the prince of darkness, which makes NO sense. Remember Christ refers to himself as "the morning star", which is the same as Lucifer. Masons are aware of this, and DO NOT follow Satan.

Jerome translated the ancient Hebrew of the old testament into Latin (which didn't exist when the OT was written). Isaiah14:12 is where this error occurs. In the original Hebrew it tells of a king who fell from grace for persecuting Israelites. The King was referred to as "son of the morning", the name Lucifer was used because to the Romans it referred to Venus (the morning star) and the moniker fit the king who's garb was bright and flashy. There was actually no mention of Satan at all.

The scholars who then translated the text into the KJV bible didn't use the original Hebrew text, they used Jerome's version. Jerome had mistranslated the Hebraic metaphor, "Day star, son of the Dawn," as "Lucifer," Ever since, this term has slowly morphed into a vulgar belief that this was the true name of Satan, the prince of darkness, which makes NO sense.
