I'm probably talking outta my arse here, but I sometimes think this song is about the BBC and other mainstream media services like FOX, CNN, SKY etc with their zealotry when reporting on war. The fuckers love it! Maybe it's the line: "I can only find the murder machine" and the references to 'abject slave mentality' and 'those who have the power but don't try.' Even if the song isn't about that, I still choose to believe it is...
@upstatelugh I think that it's about the troubles in the north of Ireland. I know Padraic Pearse wrote an essay called The Murder Machine. I think that your reading of the song works well though. I suppose that's what great music is all about.
@phonemonkey3 Cheers for responding phonemonkey3 (lol - I feel daft calling you or anyone that). I'm also grateful to you for replying because it prompted YouTube to send me an email and that in turn sent me back to this page and to this superb song. It matures well :))
I have seriously been searching for this video for the last 20 years. I saw it on Post Moden MTV in 1989 and feel in love with it. Thanks for posting it.
I had forgotten how beautiful this is . What a fabulous band . From begining to end , regardless of what I said before . I was drunk , they're great . Post more Manic pop thrill stuff please !!!!!!!
For the accordion being such a nerdy instrument this Guy and the whole band makes it look and sound so good.

Such a beautiful ballad. It takes true punks to do something like this. Love Dee and his stand bass too :)

Brilliant song, first saw this on the late, lamented No Disco on RTE television. It has never been replaced....

Thanks for posting this -- and funny that you did because I've just pulled this album out in the past few days! Must be perfect for mid-June.
