James, being a legalist, and Paul, an Apostle not by men, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead. God, not choosing James as an Apostle during Christ's life, nor after it, preached a Gospel which is not a Gospel. I know this is bold to say - being thought to be radical or even heresy, but isn't it true as James wanted us to know him: by his 'works'?

(BTW, ALL of God's Word applies to us - we can't 'pick and choose').

James is simply telling us that faith without "works" is dead (works = an OUTSIDE sign of a REAL INWARD FAITH) - and THAT kind of faith cannot save a person.

Ephesians 2:8-9 DOES say we are saved by GRACE, THROUGH FAITH in Christ alone... However, TRUE SAVING faith is NEVER alone - it is ALWAYS naturally proceeded and followed by REPENTANCE.......

The Bible is clear that those who have TRULY put their faith in Jesus will have TRUE GENUINE REPENTANCE directly following or accompanying that 'real' faith (as an outward sign to men).

JOHN 3:36 says, "...whoever does not OBEY the Son SHALL NOT SEE LIFE"

HEBREWS 12:14 says that without [growing in] holiness "NO ONE WILL SEE THE LORD"

In MATT 7:21-23, Jesus said that many who call Jesus 'LORD' (claiming to be 'Christians') will not see heaven's glory because they were "WORKERS OF LAWLESSNESS" (they were living a LIFESTYLE of sin - displaying the fact that their faith was not the TRUE SAVING faith described in James.)

James 2:24 can also be translated: "a person is 'SHOWN TO BE' righteous by works"

Also, if you truly love Jesus, you will naturally WANT to obey Him (Phil.2:13 says that GOD gives you those desires)

Amen Doctor! By the Spirit we put to DeATh the deeds of the flesh. We must be "born" then this tenacity to Love God, and our brothers, is with us all our life. Sow-en on good "Ground" = Jesus. Even Paul wrote lest I preach and I myself be lost. The Grace of God is, we can take up our cross daily and follow Him. By the Holy Spirit, whom we are sealed with till the day of redemtion.

This is what the gospel is supposed to sound like. Unabashed, uncompromising and prick to the heart. Just as Christ intended.
