There was also a small launch platvorm they build there, some people say that they launched a few V1 rocket from there.

I knew a few people who worked there during the wartime, and some places off the airfield were strictly forbidden.

One off them had to paint all the bunkers in the right seasons camouflage patterns.

The Germans definitely attached V1 doodlebugs to Heinkels and launched them when in the air from this base during the war. Look where was directly west of the base...London.

This is true but thanks to radar equipped night-fighters (particularly Mosquito planes) this was a truly dangerous occupation for the old lumbering Heinkel He111 which was heavily impeded & weighed down by the V1.

To make matters worse for the Germans the allies had by this stage deployed the proximity fuze to their anti-aircraft guns & were shooting V1's out of the sky easily & cheaply.

What is so 'secret' about this airfield, it was just one of many Luftwaffe nightfighter airfields in Western-Europe with a very intruiging history about the units operating from here, the tragic story of the forced labourers from concentration camp 's Hertogenbosch (Vught) and it's destruction in 1944 and after the war.

Are there any of the hangers there where they stored the V1 flying bombs? My Dad told me a story where one night while on guard duty he drove a small vehicle used for taking them out to put on the heinkels and crashed it into one of the V1's. He told me they stored them without the wings on, they were attached just before putting them onto the He111. He also saw a komet fly from the base.
