I've listened to this countless times. This vid inspired me so much that I learned the piece despite its difficulty by pure willpower and I did a good job at it according to the people/other amateur pianists who listened to it. Still the most difficult piece I can play. And still nowhere near the great Sviatoslav Richter.
this is more like chopin's style..and it doesn't sound like an etude at all..It's so beautiful.. I love scriabin etudes and it's weird that i never listened to them before, now i just started and they're kinda fascinating to me <3
Yes, it's an old recording. But despite the sound quality you can still hear and enjoy his fabulous playing. His rubato is so good. He gives this piece such a beautiful, natural flow that every other version I've heard sounds clumsy in comparison.
such a beautifull piece. Even if it is writen in a major tonality, it still has that misery and despair feeling of scriabin. Also, one of his most lyrical pieces if you ask me. Just try to sing along with it, itll go great =] this etude is so underrated, more views should be on this video, and richter is the only concert pianst i know that recorded this.
@chopianst Many other concert pianists recorded this one, including Vladimir Sofronitsky and Viktor Merzhanov. Still, not as many as should have, I'll give you that -- this is a pearl.
@onixandY The rhythm, harmony, formal structure and everything that constitutes a piece of music is a natural destination for non-specialist public. Each performer is free to change the rhythm as the writing suggests its interpretive imagination, but each listener is free to detect the distance between performance and score. I can read a score, unfortunately, and often, in private, sound studies and some sonatas of Scriabin. Also, I love the interpretations of Richter.
I played this and in my opinion it is a really "chopinesque" etude, but the mood is still very Scriabinesque with those big chords at the left hand! Wonderful music with an incredible pianist
even though there are other people playing it well on youtube the difference between them and this performance could not be bigger. im amazed by this beautiful playing not even recognizing how hard it actually is! hats off gentlemen..
I think most of the people neglected Scriabin, such a pity!

It took me 5 months, by the way. An other thing: I don't mind the recording quality. It actually gives a beautiful nostalgic feel to it.

Ritmicamente assurdo
paerf2 2 years ago
This type of music is not suitable for low-level pianists, the rhythm is too complex to be understood by them!!

It's meaningless to look for "the best" interpretation.
There are so many great pianists with brilliant ideas...
The best thing you can do is to listen and admire the beauty in each style.

I was almost moved to tears by this, while it's only the third Scriabin piece I've heard. I wonder what else there is in store..

well, when Scriabin wrote this etude he was under the influence of Chopin's music :)
