@aro327 You gotta understand something about Jimmy. His standards are way up there cuz he's so smart. He tested in high school at genius levels....So that's why. I feel terrible; I'm gonna go to bed.
I think that if the ending were different, this would have been the song chosen as the main tune for the movie. As written, the ending of the song is exactly the same as "I'll Be There For You", the "Friends" theme. Maybe that made the producers shy away from this song so the movie didn't seem too contemporary.
@orriblebob Well, I love Tom Hanks, but Turner and Hooch, The Money Pit, Neighbors, The Man With One Red Shoe, and Dragnet were all pretty crappy. It took a while for Tom to find his groove.
awesome song! i used to watch this movie over and over when i was a kid. and to my amazement, i actually found my cassette tape of the soundtrack just a few days ago. couldn't believe it.
I think this is the best song on the soundtrack album, even better than the "big hit". This song captures the jangly sixties type pop song sound so well. You could play this on an oldies station and folks probably wouldn't know the difference... LOL.
Better than the crap that passes for top 40 today for sure.
Fred, I wanted you to know that Scott Rogness sang this song and co-wrote it with Rick Elias back in 1996. Rick Elias did all of the Guitar work on this song too. They also wrote 4 other songs for the "That Thing You Do" Movie Sound Track. They are: "Dance with Me Tonight"; "All My Only Dreams"; "She Knows It"; and "Drive Faster".
Scott Rogness also sang lead vocals on the other songs on the movie sound track which are: "Dance with Me Tonight"; "All My Only Dreams"; "She Knows It"; and "Drive Faster". Again, Scott Rogness is the one really singing lead vocals for this song, "I need You, (That Thing You Do)"

Adam Schlesinger wrote the song, "That Thing You Do" and also the song, "Little Wild One" on the "That Thing You Do" movie sound track. However, Adam had his friend, Mike Viola, sing lead vocals on both of these songs. I thought everybody in the world should know the "real" musicians behind the movie!!!
i was on a harvest machine this morning, in northen california just singing this song over and over in my head.. just waiting to come home and listen to it....the wonders are great....viva mexico..
Great song, great movie. Those 4 guys were cast so well together and Tom Hanks was the icing on the cake. Liv Tyler was as beautiful as she's ever going to be too. The movie took place in a special period in America's history that will never be recaptured.
@Ragnar06 Boy, you sure are right. I am so fortunate to having been a teenager during that period of time (okay, the Vietnam War may have been somewhat problematic): Rascals, Beach Boys, Supremes, Byrds, on and on . . . and of course, The Wonders. So glad I got to see them in concert. I think that Tom Petty and The Bangles were huge affecianados of that period. You can hear that style in some of their music.
@prettylatinachic1 ur crazy for giving it away. that;s like me and the forest gump sountrack. i had it and traded it in. it was a 2 disc set. watched it on tv not too long ago, and every song in that movie is amazing.
''The song that plays during the film's opening credits, "Lovin' You Lots and Lots", is credited to the fictitious "Norm Wooster Singers" but was actually written by Hanks. This song is a good-natured parody of Ray Conniff, Mitch Miller, and other practitioners of proto-muzak''
"The soundtrack album (released under the Play-Tone name in conjunction with Epic Records) was also a hit, peaking at #21 on the Billboard Top 200. The CD artwork is a replica of the fictional Play-Tone label used in the movie, and the liner notes are done in a mockumentary style, as if the Wonders had been a real group and the events of the film had actually happened."
here is a quote from a web page about this group & movie-if you check out the youtube interview with tom hanks you will see that it is a work of fiction.
You weren't listening to right radio stations. You were probably listening to WABC and The Wonders, although from Pennsylvania, were more of a mid-western band and didn't get enough airplay east of Pittsburgh.
Such a cute song.. Lol. I love the movie. Ive seen it so many times, i can recite it. I really like it...The casting was great. Everyone fit together perfectly. And the soundtrack rocks
me too -- seen it on tv a few times the past couple days. one of those films that triggers good emotions, provokes reflection on what's transitory and what lasts in life. i dig it.
WOW, I've been looking so hard for this song, thanks so much for posting. Dude you rule thank you. This Track is played in the credits of the movie, Totally underrated if you ask me. MOST excellent song! : )
