I felt in love with this song when I first heard it on Around The World with Three Dog Night (live album from the 70's) Too bad it isn't included on their greatest hits CD. Before I saw The Notebook, I thought they had included it in the film. But alas, no. This song goes perfectly with the film. You have the ingenuity to set the music to it. I first heard this song while waiting to ship out for Vietnam sitting on a top bunk in a dark barracks late one evening at Oakland Army Base looking across the Bay at San Francisco. I have always loved it and will never forget the song or the monment. I can listen to the song, close my eyes and still see those lights. That was 37 years ago. Great songs will live forever.

Incredible story! My great-uncle was in 'Nam as a MASH thoracic surgeon (also D-Day and Battle of the Bulge). He was one of last people airlifted off the Hanoi Hilton. He later went back and established a teaching hospital in Hanoi. He just died in 2005 at the age of 101. Bless bless you guys. I used to date a Vietnam vet, and boy, did he ever have horrific flashbacks.
