This movie has nothing at all to do with gays so what point does making a character gay is trying to make. Watch movie, any movie, elements especially big elements serve a purpose. There are no random characters, no random scenes in movies for no reason at all, everything has a meaning. What kind of point is director trying to make while making Dafoe gay, making him gay makes no sense at all.

My question would be, why don't more movies have gay characters whose gayness isn't vital to the plot?

Those guys are the only one I've seen the film with that got fooled. They weren't very bright and they were the typical 'Prove we are men by talking sexist shit about women.' types.

Since I was sitting with them (a girl) they were eager to make a point by commenting every female in the film. I totally loved that they couldn't see the difference between a woman and a rough looking man in drag.
